Monday, January 10, 2011 I heard the anchor being lowered about 6:45 am, that’s when immigration came aboard to inspect passports. We were not moving again until about 10:30 am when a pilot came aboard who will take Discovery through the river passage. We are experiencing some very unusual Brazilian rules. While we are in Brazil only Brazilian Tourism can present anything relating to Brazil. All lectures about Brazil are blocked out, both by Discovery and Road Scholar. Employees of the ship (not the crew) are not allowed to wear their name...

Aug 23, 2005 - Brazil - Macapa

Macapa can be found on the north of the Rio Amazonas estuary and once again we are back on the equator, but this time on the other side of the continent. After putting our watches forward, the day is spent getting organized for our journey north - bus tickets, haircut, provisions and having a look around the huge fort. We find a great juice bar and are like magnets all day long - new juices sampled include; tapereba, sirigula and mastruz - the list of fruits seem endless. It is unbelievably hot and humid here so we have dinner on the end...
