Sep 9, 2016 - Nassau, The Bahamas

After another thankfully flat day at sea we arrived in the Bahamas. We didn't fall in love with Nassau- not helped by our slightly dodgy taxi tour guide! There are 700 islands in the Bahamas though so we are sure the majority of them are great! By 5:30 the next morning we were back in Miami and leaving the Divina all slightly heavier than when we embarked! Even Theo has eaten his weight in food!

Our Year Out

Oct 14, 2015 - Wednesday At Sea

The tranquility of early morning at sea aboard ship before all the guest have awakened from the night of partying. I was able to get to deck 11 with the scooter, deck 12 is the jogging track, which I will not be jogging this morning. As I sit at the fantail gazing out to sea, the stars are out and lights on the horizon of other ships plying the seas to a port of call to unload their cargo. Such a peaceful time of day. Passing the crew members as they do their morning duties wishing you a good morning, probably the only English some may...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 13, 2015 - Tuesday Nassau Bahamas

We arrived in Nassau at the scheduled time of 8:00 am. We were stopped outside the harbor for about an hour waiting for the Pilot to show up so we could enter the harbor. That was good because that gave everyone time to get around and go up on deck to see us docking. We docked next to another Carnival ship that had arrived before us and there was another waiting behind us to enter the harbor. That put 3 Carnival Cruise ships and a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in port at the same time. The folks in Nassau must enjoy all the tourist on the...

2015 Family Cruise

Apr 10, 2015 - Last full day at sea

4-10-15 Cruise Day 7, Day two at sea The advantage of being old is you get up early in the morning. I was up at what I thought was 5AM, (turned out to be 4AM due to the time change.) The sea was black, you can only see the waves near the hull and the horizon once your eyes adjust. There is coffee to be found on the ship at all hours and I found it. I was sitting and enjoying the solitude when another early morning riser arrived and chatted me up. Cruisers are a friendly lot, this fellow was from southern Louisiana and works on grain...

Apr 9, 2015 - An easy day at sea

4-9-15 Cruise Day 6, At sea Another perfect day. We are at sea now so there is no rush getting up and doing….anything. Had a lovely breakfast on the fantail, but no birds to entertain us today. There was a t-shirt sale on the pool deck that Julie wanted to check out, along with everyone else on the ship. It was lunch time by the time we cleared the sale. After lunch we did nothing except read, relax, tend our sunburns, and look at the other burn victims walking around the ship. We learned some valuable lessons about exposure to...

Apr 8, 2015 - CoCoCay, Bahamas

4-8-15 Cruise Day 5, CocoCay, Bahamas We arrived at CocoCay at around 7:30AM. A group of boats that look like landing craft started out towards us as soon as we dropped anchor. We are anchored offshore next to 2 other cruise ships. Passengers are ferried to the Island by the smaller boats called tenders. We had breakfast on the stern of the ship and were watching the tenders work. We also watched as the seagulls were hovering around waiting for unwary passengers to leave their breakfast unattended for a moment. They came over the rails like...

4-7-15 Cruise Day 4, Nassau, Bahamas Another great day in the Caribbean. Had a leisurely breakfast before arriving in the port of Nassau. The Captain brought the ship into a narrow rocky passage into the harbor then turned it around 180 degrees and backed it into the pier like a car beside three other cruise ships. Bow and stern thrusters come in handy in tight spots. We cleared the ship by 10:30 and were ready for our excursion into Nassau. We took another guided tour in a bus called “Bahama Experience Tours.” We had a funny and...

Mar 28, 2015 - Our day in Nassau

Nassau's weather was cloudy but it didn't rain. We toured the straw market and the surrounding streets, managed not to get hit by the cars driving on the wrong side of the road and decided there was absolutely nothing in Nassau we needed, except cocktails and some conch fritters. Andy and family went to the water park on Atlantis and Jim and family (except Jack) stayed on the ship and went on the Aqua Duck.

Mar 26, 2015 - On the move, in Nassau for start of trip homeward

We have done a lot since the last posting. After our wonderful day at Little Farmer’s Cay we had planned to spend the following day snorkeling at various places as we made our way north. Once again, the plan was made only to change. Overnight the wind switched to SW which meant that the water was too stirred up to make snorkeling possible. Instead we had a nice sail back to the anchorage at Big Majors. Since it was Connie’s (Summer of 42) birthday, there was a celebration sundowner on the beach…and it was fun. The next day J&B loaned us...

Mar 1, 2015 - Moved on to Nassau

Our stay in South Bimini was a little longer than we originally planned. The morning of our (Brian and Vicki from Southern Yankee, Judy and Bill from J&B, and Fred and me) first full day there was spent at the Bahamas Telephone Company (BaTelCo). I had unlocked my iPhone and planned to put a BaTelCo SIM card in it. However, apparently my iPhone wasn’t really unlocked so we had to scratch that plan. My iPad (which has been “flaky” for a while) would not work with the BaTelCo SIM card even though it has worked previous years. Scratch that...

Feb 19, 2015 - Nassau, Bahamas - Feb 2015

Was not happy about the food here. Market Place (buffet) did not have much to choose from. We never even tried the other restaurants there. We visited Nettie's which is a good, local spot. Elvin served us some great food - pan seared grouper (me), friend conch (him), rice and peas, steamed carrots, and slaw. Delish! Many's - local hole in the wall bar. We watched All-Star game and contests here. We went twice. Met a guy named Doug there. He was from FL and pretty cool.
