Current location: Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, Bahamas Current weather: High in the low 80’s, cloudy – good wind! Favorite boat name seen recently: Doodlebug - a boat we crossed paths with on March 14. They were completing a 6-year circumnavigation that had started in Ft. Lauderdale on March 17 and were aiming to be back exactly on March 17. It was neat to talk to them (on the VHF). Jan 25, 2009 - Eleuthrera Island

It was a long day motor/sail across the Northeast Providence Channel with water depth of 13,000 plus ft or 4,000 plus meters and a total distance of apx 60 miles, the water color was a deep purple. We anchored off Royal Island a old pirate hang out, raising the anchor early in the morning for a 5 mile motor to Spanish Wells. We had to make Spanish Wells by 8 am to use the high tide 3 ft above 5 ft datum to enter the harbour and hook up to a mooring ball. Feb 16, 2007 - Governor's Harbour

Governor's Harbour provides poor holding as an anchorage and the mooring balls are old and not recommended for use and this time of year with so much windy weather the bay is very rough. We wanted to see this town that was the original capital of the Bahamas so we decided to hitch hike the 16 miles to Governor's Harbour from our nice, safe spot at the wall in Hatchet Bay.
