Jan 23, 2012 - Day 17 - One way street to Burger King!
What a day!!! We had to be up early this morning - we were leaving the hotel at 7 so up at half 5... hence earlyish bedtime last night, after my Star Wars marathon day!! The internet was pretty crap in the last place so I made it my mission to watch all of the Stars Wars films, as I'd never seen them. I'm actually quite enjoying them - Just the final one to watch - but I already know Luke's his son!!! We had three shows again today, the third, featuring a game, we were given something that we had to do/feel along with a trigger word - mine...Jump to full entry
Jan 21, 2012 - Day 15 - Jamie Paul Sir Edward Hillary Brook Smith!
Guten Abend - Good evening!! We haven't actually moved from the hotel yet - but decided to add a new destination after two days of being a tourist!! We had three shows yesterday... The cast weren't really "feeling up to it!" again, which lead to great expectations for the shows! I'm lucky that I share a similar outlook on things with Luke "however you feel/whatever's going on.... you still have to perform!" even if it affects the character in someway - work with it, don't just give up the ghost! You know the cliche.... "The show must go...Jump to full entry
Jan 18, 2012 - Day 12 - John Paul Gavarshieeah!
So we've left the lovely town of Steyr and are making our way to Linz... Just a brief entry first though, mapping our stop in Kirchdorf an der Krems... an der Krems being like "upon Avon" or "on trent" in England. I drove this morning and it was hard work! There's snow every where and we had to drive up a very steep hill into the mountains - I wondered where the bleedin' hell it was taking us. Think I was probably doing half the speed limit for most of the journey but rather get there a bit later but safe!!! I think we only saw about 6 cars...Jump to full entry
Jan 18, 2012 - Day 12 (part II) - Cooking on the Lav!!
New town, new hotel room! And we're here for 5 nights again - so a nice settled stay. Making the most of it because I think we change digs every night next week! Nice enough room - more like a travelodge than some of the places we've stayed. I, as always have to have the window open, despite the freezing temps, and unfortunately this time am opposite the train station!! It's absolutely huge - most be their equivalent of Clapham Junction. SHouldn't keep me awake though. Got in and crashed - couple of hours kip again!! Although we did hjave a...Jump to full entry
Jan 17, 2012 - Day 11 - Feeling like a Beatle!!!
We're still in Steyr - this is our final evening here... and it's finally snowing!! We've had about three inches, maybe a little bit more - but somehow, the roads are clear BUT there isn't lots of horrible grey, oily slush in the gutters!?!?! Mind you I'm not complaining about English snow.... I LIKE THE FACT we can't get to work sometimes!!! Three show day yesterday in a beautiful little theatre... I MUST get a picture tonight... It's like a mini buxton Opera house!! Fell asleep for most of the afternoon again yesterday... But did later...Jump to full entry
Jan 14, 2012 - Day 8 - "Time travelling to the 2nd world war era!!!"
Weather - Bloody freezing and snowy - although tending not to stick! Hotel: Mader - Visit the site by clicking here: Hotel Mader - English Site Translation Guten tag! Checked into our new hotel after a three hour drive. Hannah did the first hour and me the rest of the journey - had to drive through snow drifts and some heavy snow - none of which seemed to stick. The roads are really windy and driving isn't exactly the pleasant experience I was anticipating. Saying that it was my first trip as driver for all the cast - so maybe I was a bit...Jump to full entry
Aug 8, 2011 - Last day in Mondsee

Aug 7, 2011 - August 6-7 2011 Family Reunion pictures
We took it easy today as the Family Reunion started at 3 PM. The Reunion was held in a town called Seekirchen. There were about 140 people in attendance. Each of the family branches were introduced. Most of the speeches were in German however there were three cousins assigned to sit at the Canadian branch table to offer translation. It was much appreciated. The rest of the post is the related to the family reunion and the connections. I finally got a chance to meet Aunt Maria and Uncle Franz. These two were given up for adoption during the...Jump to full entry
Aug 5, 2011 - Salzburg
Day 2. Salisburg Mondsee. So we got a good night sleep at Elinor's and Max's. We decided since it was going to be a fairly nice day that we would go to Berchtesgaden. I have always wanted to go there and it is fairly close. Berchtesgaden for those who don't know is the town where Hitler's henchman built the Eagles nest. The cost to go on the tour is quite expensive, but relative for what you get. It is a four hour tour explaining the site and the Hitler era in the area. 50 Euro per person We drove to Berchesgarden and as we got closer it...Jump to full entry
Jun 6, 2011 - Hallstatt
This morning we were ready for another road trip rather than hitting the city streets. I have always wanted to visit Hallstatt based on the description in the Rick Steves book and the pictures I have seen. It is a small town on a lake near Salzburg. The hills in this area have dozens of alpine lakes, a network of roads winding through the hills connecting them. I think of this as the foothills of the Alps, but there are some pretty impressive peaks that are close. As you approach Hallstatt, the road goes into a long tunnel that actually...Jump to full entry
Aug 13, 2009 - Vienna (Wien)
Thursday We awoke in anticipation of the city of Vienna , the capital of Austria and looked across to the new city from our ship balcony. Having travelled from the smaller cities of the north of Austria we caught the tour bus into the centre of the city Stephandom the highest and most aclaimed church in Austria. A church has stood on the site for over 800 years but the only remaining sections of the original 13th Century Romanesque church are the Giant;s Doorway and Heathen Towers. The Gothic nave choir and side chapels are the result of a...Jump to full entry
Aug 12, 2009 - Salzburg
On our way this morning I photographed the first lock one of eleven that we will pass as we drop down through the different water levels of the Danube River. From an engineering perspective it was interesting to see the speed at which the ships pass through and sometimes go through side by side. The nights are often punctuated with the sound of creaking boards as the ship slides down the high side walls of the lock to the new water level. We faced a long drive from Linz where the ship berthed late last night to Salzburg the center eo...Jump to full entry
