Oct 29, 2016 - Peaceful Bay
We had quite a bit of rain overnight and woke up to a cold, windy and wet morning. However, we were both keen to ‘do’ the ‘Tree Top Walk’ in the ‘Valley of the Giants’ as well as look at Conspicuous Cliff- an almost circular route in very close proximity to Peaceful Bay. Ian went for the morning outing whilst I did dog sitting duties and a load of washing, and was back at about lunch time. He had thoroughly enjoyed the tree top walk, but had hardly been able to get out of the car at Conspicuous Cliff because of the wind and rain. It was my...

Oct 28, 2016 - Northcliffe to Peaceful Bay (Between Walpole and Denmark)
Before leaving camp this morning we took the dogs for a walk around the ‘short’ walk, then hit the road just after our usual 10am. There is an amazing grass tree on the walk which is estimated to be about 300 years old as well as some wonderful wildflowers. I keep finding flowers that I have not seen before. The route today towards Walpole was once again mainly through karri forest, though there was a very large section of what was probably burnt in bushfires earlier this year- (I found out later that over 150,000 hectares of karri forest...

Dec 22, 2015 - Bunbury to Walpole
Went to the Dolphin Discovery Centre in Bunbury this morning. You wait around on the beach until dolphins are spotted, *if* they are spotted, and they usually swim in. This may or may not happen. Folks enter the water, to about knee or waist deep, and the dolphins swim around you, in curiosity. Alas, it was not to be for us that morning, as they didn't come in. And we had to hit the road. But as we left, we drove a bit out of our way, to an estuary, out on a spit of land, where we did see them, albeit at a distance. Then it was southward...

Friday 21 August 2015 Picked a good day for our "rest day". Not sure what the weather was like elsewhere, but there were enough showers here to make it worthwhile not to venture out. The usual patches of lovely blue sky appeared between showers, but the day didn't seem to warm up too much. Late breakfasts for everyone, in fact we don't think Dot & Gary bothered with breakfast, just went straight to morning tea. John and Don had their usual computer session, so hopefully the Benn's now have access on both their tablet and lap top. Time will...

Aug 20, 2015 - Walpole
Thursday 20 August 2015 A very wet night in Walpole, but the morning dawned with a lighter sky, and glimpses of blue. The typical weather of showers, fine, showers, fine followed the usual pattern. No need to rush off, so had a leisurely morning start. Don and John got the Benn computer problem sorted out, and they were back in business with their emails. Decided to pack morning tea and set off for the Tree Top Walk in the Valley of the Giants. Once again the rain cleared for us and we were able to enjoy the suspension bridge and the...

Aug 19, 2015 - Walpole
Wednesday 19 August 2015 After a wet night, the day dawned a bit brighter, but by the time we headed out, the showers were getting a bit heavier. First stop was the Info Centre and left there with map and a circuit we could do! Not too sure about attempting that in the rain, so adjourned to the bakery (another recommendation) to discuss the day's adventure. The coffee was very nice, and all our orders turned up except Dot's scone. Reminded them that we were waiting for one more thing, and after a bit of discussion, the scone turned up. That...

Aug 18, 2015 - Albany to Walpole
Tuesday 18 August 2015 Not far to go today, so had a leisurely pack up and left Albany about 9.30am. Think there were a couple of showers during the night, so it was a surprise to find blue sky and sun when we got up for the day. Turned out to be another one of those days when the showers come and go as quickly as the sun and blue sky. Our first stop was Denmark, a lovely little town. Had a walk around the shops there for quite a while. It was suggested to us to call into the Toffee Factory about 15 kms down the road. Quite an interesting...

Oct 6, 2013 - Walpole, Denmark and on
(Sal) We woke up quite refreshed after a night in the forest and started packing up fairly early. As we were finishing, a big bus and car trailer pulled up driven by an older man with his wife riding shotgun. They were from northern Queensland and had noticed our number plates. Turns out they have been travelling for a few years and had a pretty complete set up including their midget mg car! Funny though, they only like to drive about 60km a day, so not sure when they'd use it. The bloke was into American football, so he was only concerned...

Oct 31, 2012 - National Parks and Tree Top Walks
Left Pemberton and drove the short distance to Gloucester National Park to climb the Gloucester Tree (old fire look out tree) which is about 60m high. Mum and the boys got about 10m off the ground and stopped. Dad didn't even start. Congratulations to those who are game enough to climb it. We then drove down towards Northcliffe and entered Warren National Park to have a look at the Bicentennial Tree (another fire lookout). This one was taller but had a platform about half way up. Dad got about half way to the platform as did Keagan and...
