We had been to ‘shell’ beaches before, but Shell Beach of Shark Bay was certainly in another league when it came to shells. The demure white shell known as the Hamelin Cockle was in such prolific supply on this large stretch of beach, that it was recognised as a renewable resource and ‘mined’ by a company for who knows what. The gazillions of shells were 10 metres deep in places, providing a gleaming white foreground to the backdrop of clear, intensely green-blue waters.
