Sep 6, 2013 - Quobba Station

Quobba Station 06/09/13 - 8/9/13 There wasn’t much at Quobba but the Blow Holes were amazing. You couldn’t get very close to the edge on our first visit because it was high tide and the waves that were crashing into the cliff face were very wild (mum kept grabbing our arms to make sure we didn't get to close) The Blow Holes spurt water up into the air about 20 to 30metres high. On our way out we visited them again at low tide so we got a closer look. We did day trips to different places like Red Bluff and Narloo Bay (which was beautiful)....

Oct 26, 2011 - Day 52 Red Bluff

This is by far my favorite place in Australia. I really don't want to leave tomorrow but we need to push on if we want to get home in early december. Stace has explained Red Bluff well but it has just sucked me in and made me fall in love with it. 1000 kms north of Sydney is Surfers Paradise, 100O kms north of Perth is Red Bluff. It couldn't be more different. We are so remote here. If you get hammered on the reef here on a big day you are a long way from help. We are actually on a sheep station called Quobba Station and Red Bluff is on the...

Oct 25, 2011 - Day 51 Red Bluff

Today was one of those days when you start to understand how some people do this permanently. Don't get me wrong, I would love a fresh water shower, food without flies and a bed free of sand, and we will still return home.  But when you wake up and take a long walk on the beach with the kids, then for lunch eat the 10 fish that had been caught, cooked two ways, you start to think that life is pretty good. The only thing missing was a surfable wave today. More fish were caught, everyone got browner or dirtier, it's hard to tell which, we...

Oct 24, 2011 - Day 50 Red Bluff

You wouldn't think there would be much to write when you camp at the beach in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do, but what a great day we have had here today at Red Bluff. After an early night, we were up at 6:00am, and walking on the beach at 6:30am. Mick and I had talked last night and vowed to dedicate today to the kids and making them smile. So, we strolled along the beach, kicking a ball as we went, to keep Paddy moving forward, and collecting shells for some jewelry for India. It was a gorgeous sunny morning, and when we reached...

Sep 7, 2007 - Home Again.....Reluctantly!

From Denham we started a convoluted path towards home. We hoped to spend time in Big Lagoon on Peron Peninsula, and timed our entrance into the narrow channel for about an hour before high tide. However the water was still a bit too shallow, and for a few tense moments we bounced along the bottom - not a pleasant feeling! With the next highest tide to be in about 4 days time at around 3 in the morning, we conceded defeat, and headed for Broadhurst Bight further up the Peninsula. With strong winds and swells of 4 metres forecast for the next...

Mar 18, 2007 - Carnarvon

Carnarvon We anchored in front of the Yacht Club in hole of about 2m in the Fascine. We spent the week recovering, shopping for supplies, fixing our fridge (which is working like a dream now) school work, cleaning and getting ready to enter Shark Bay. We also caught up with the Kritti Kritters, Scott and Grahame and had beers and dinner with them a couple of times during the week. We went to the Yacht Club and met some of the locals. Emma and Grace met a bunch of kids and spent the night running around playing chasey in between dashes to...
