Oct 19, 2004 - Perth Australia Home

Perth my home base, the best CITY in Australia without a doubt, so its a bit far away from boring Sydney some 6000miles. Its laid back with the Swan river running through the city, great white sandy beaches, with the odd White pointer as in shark to swim with. We have great winerys, world class wines, karri forrest, so for all you tree hugers get down south. Also have some great restuarants around the place and of course Freo the yuppy place to go. Well enough of Perth, Im not getting any kick backs for writting this, so do yourself a...

Peters adventures

Oct 18, 2004 - Back in the western world

Greetings from Perth! Have got myself back to real civilisation after all my exciting adventures. It's a very wierd feeling - this is a real city, with people going to work and living their lives! Still, the sun is shining and it's reasonably warm (though it gets very cold at night, not something I'm used to) and I think I'll have a good time. Perth seems very nice, but it really is a change from SE Asia. No more lazy days and nights, everything here is really happening! Hoping to escape from the city in a day or two and go down the...

Oct 13, 2004 - Have you a criminal record sir ? I didn't know you still needed one.

It's an old Alexei Sayle joke... First full day here and we went for a mince round town. Brilliantly we've caught Perth during a cold windy snap. The days are OK, about 22C which is nice compared to some of the baking temperatures that we've had but nights are a bit nippy. Adelaide meantime, at the same latitude, is 36C. We checked a gig listings webpage to see what bands were on. We had this vision of getting to see a really cool band in a really small venue here cos maybe they weren't as famous in Oz as back home. We would then go back...

Jul 15, 2004 - Perth (and Western Australia)

I arrived in Perth mid July and ended up staying there, or at least being based there, until Christmas, so there is a lot to write about during this time. We got ourselves a room at a backpackers in Northbridge, Perth. The well renowned backpacker area. This time, money was tight and we set about immediately trying to find work. Within a couple of days we had set up an interview for a travelling funfair, which was advertising for 10 backpackers to join up for a period of 5 weeks. Although this was a big time commitment, we both loved the...

Big Fat Trip

Dec 23, 2003 - Arrival in Perth, Australia!

Arrived in Perth at 1am and were greeted by Perth's friendliest taxi driver. Now bear in mind it is very late and we have had a long flight and we are greeted by a man who loves his city so much he doesn't just want to drive us to our hotel he wants to give us a complete city tour after what the brochure describes as a '30 minute drive from the airport' we eventually arrived at the hotel at 2.30am, experts on Perth! After booking the hotel by accident it turns out we are in one of the nicest hotels in Western Australia, 4 star with every...

Oct 5, 2003 - A man and a van

We've just finished dinner  - Paul had steak and I had fish, both accompanied by a selection of grilled veggies and cooked outside on the campsite barbecue. We're now back in the van, sheltering from the wind and looking out at the stars. The wind was the small price we had to pay for a secluded spot facing out to sea over the sand dunes, and an incredible sunset all to ourselves.   In the three weeks since we flew into Perth, we've driven nearly four thousand KMs, seen enough outback and dead kangaroos on the side of roads to ...

Sep 16, 1975 - Perth

Arrived at Perth Terminal at 7am. The first thing we did was buy a paper, then caught a train into the city. There were several flats advertised so we chose the ones nearest the city. Couldn't find anyone at the first place so walked to 1/6 Wright Street, Highgate, had a look at it and took it. $25 pw, walking distance from Perth central, 15cents by bus. Went back to the city station to collect our luggage, caught a cab back, unpacked our luggage and went to bed, tired out.
