Dec 14, 2017 - Day 18 - Coolgardie to Perth

The last day. Only 560 km to home. The longest drive. Finally sunshine and fresh temperature, so we went for an early start, with the bikes refuelled the night before. While packing I was considering that this would have been the last time for a while, at least for this trip. We did those same movements, that on the last 18 days become a daily routine. I remembered the first morning in Norseman, when it took a while to repack everything before taking off and I said Alberto that the last day we would have pack the lot in a fraction of the...

Dec 5, 2017 - Sumatra

Sumatra – Indonesia We left Perth Australia on Monday 27 th November, but not without a bit of a hitch, due to the volcano on Bali which had been rumbling for some time, continued to rumble. The Airport at Bali (Denpasar)had been both open and closed during the previous week. Many airlines had already cancelled their flights for the day going to Denpasar which was a cause for slight anxiety on our part, but Garuda were confident they would fly as the Bali airport was open. The air crew boarded the plane, our flight was called and as we...

Dec 2, 2017 - At Paula and Sefton's

We picked the hire car (Clyde - obviously) up from the airport early on Friday morning and headed into Perth for breakfast and a wander. Weather was a lovely 29 degrees but with none of the humidity of Cairns so it felt really nice. Didn't really do much apart from get robbed by the car parking system - $20 for about 2 hours! We made it to Paula (my cousin on Mum's side) and Sefton's at around midday and made plans for the rest of the week. Highlight of the day has got to be going for a spin in Sefton's hot rod based on a Model T Ford...

Nov 30, 2017 - Off to Perth

30th Novemeber has arrived and it's time to say goodbye to Eastern Australian and head for the west. Can't say I'm sorry to see the back of stinging jelly fish and crocodiles. Before handing Bonnie back we did a quick trip into Cairns and had some lunch by the harbour. What we should have done is head for Muddy's Playground which is an area that has been made to look like and artificial beach. Looks fabulous so I did the brit thing and went for a paddle! Lots of Christmas parties going on but somehow the Santa outfits and speedos don't...

Almost there. Yesterday have replaced the USB outputs on my bike, that for some reason the one previously installed was not working. I took the chance to give a check to all the rest and all looks ready to go. Really hope the old lady will carry me over and back without issues. Today have done a bike load test, to see if all fits and yes, it fits! Not much room left thou, but Alberto's bike has nothing on the back, so we may always strap there some light camping gear there to make room in the panniers. Have gone through the list I've made...

Is getting closer. Yesterday evening have started packing the spares and accessories. The left pannier is where I want to put these things as if we will stop on the side of the rad is the safer side to be. So far i fit all I had, including most of the camping gears and both bikes' panniers are full. So considering I'm missing few items, I will definitively need at least one additional bag to put on the passenger seal. I'm thinking to put all camping gears in this bag, so will be much easier to strap one single item instead of the tent, the...

Less than one week to go. Last week and over the week end my bike was running funny. Like if it was going with one cylinder only, but was not. Low rev was having this funny feeling, once at speed was fine enough. Check few things, but couldn't find anything. While having a 400 km ride on Sunday, to have Alberto and my arse practicing for the trip, I had all sorts of thought coming to my mind around the reliability of my bike. I even thought to go an buy a newer GS at the BMW dealer. Monday morning went to see the mechanic and after a while...

Less than two weeks to go. Few things still to be purchased, lots of things still to be delivered and some item that will be inevitably been forgotten. The itinerary is drafted, but of course will be subject to plenty of changes in real time. Have investigated the shipment for the bikes on the way back, but some doubts came up in my mind. If we drop the bikes in Sydney around the 16th/18th December, they won't be delivered in Perth before the 10th/15th January. So have revisited the itinerary, cut some days on the way east and done a "fast...

Nov 15, 2017 - Perth Australia

Perth Australia We arrived in Australia early Monday evening 13 th November after an excellent journey with Emirates, from Heathrow via Dubai. We are staying in a lovely apartment well placed for getting in and and around Perth. On our first day Tuesday we walked into Perth and had breakfast with Peter at the Cutting Board and then went to Kings Park which is more like a nature reserve than a park. We had a wonderful walk through the gardens but also headed out onto tracks which made us feel we were in the heart of Bushland. Highlight of...

Apr 23, 2017 - Perth to Sydney to Los Vegas PHOTOS TO BE ADDED

I caught up to Kylie and Mel and the grandkids in Mandurah before heading back to Perth after the Rotary Presidents' Elect training. It was good to see them all before flying off for a month. Graham and Jane dropped us to the airport about 9:30pm and our big journey began. We had to go through immigration in Perth even though we weren't on an international flight until we left Sydney. We were a bit late leaving so it was 23/4 before we took off. The flight to Sydney was pretty cramped....a full plane so it made sleeping difficult. We have a...
