Dec 2, 2015 - Newman

Arrived in Newman about 11am. Went to Whaleback Caravan Park only to find Park Closed sign and to go to Kalgan Rest. Both are mining camps. We were charged $38 a night and its not peak season. A rip off for what you get. But camping out is impossible with 40 plus Celsius heat. Thunderstorm and lightening started about 4pm with a vengeance. Very strong gusty winds and rain went on for about an hour, then disappeared to blue skies again. Temp today was 38 and our overnight temp is 31 going down to 27 by 6am.

Dec 1, 2015 - Kumarina

We arrived at Kumarina, a rundown roadhouse in much need of a bit of TLC. It is a two days travel northeast of Perth, Kumarina is located on the Great Northern Highway and is ideal for stopovers. Kumarina features a wildlife sanctuary, roadhouse, tavern, motel, restaurant and a caravan park. Restaurant meals and fast food are also available. The caravan park does not have water for caravans or camping. Its in the outback and very basic. Our first of many thunderstorms started this afternoon. Lasted about an hour.

Day 3 – Karalundi – Newman This morning we drove to Kumarina Roadhouse. There we had we had a sausage roll & some cake. There were a few animals there. They were a baby cow, a cockatoo and a baby donkey, that was rescued a few days ago. The cockatoo wanted lots of scratches. It would say “have a scratch” then turn it's head for you to scratch. The cow was out the front and very bored, because it was lonely. The donkeys mum got shot and the baby was sleeping in a persons room. When the donkey gets bigger it will go in with the cow, so they...

DAY: 3 Karalundi – Newman We woke up early and had coco pops for breakfast. We packed up the van and started driving. We were only on the road about 2 minutes and we already had to pull over for a massive trucks. After we passed the massive trucks we kept driving until we got to Kumarina. We stopped at Kumarina for lunch and out the front of Kumarina there was a lonely calf but in a couple of months he wont be lonely. A donkey that it's mother got shot dead is going to be able to go and live with the cow when it is older. When we were...

Day 3 – Karalundi to Newman Another early start. We are not planning on having early starts, but we are actually quiet relaxed in the mornings & have our pack up routine pretty much down pat already. Left Karalundi at 7:45 & drove straight through to Kumarina Roadhouse, where we got some lunch. This turned into a bit of a longer stop than we anticipated, but none of us were complaining. We got talking to a truckie & he let the boys have a look around & a sit in the cabin of his truck. They were pretty amazed by this experience. We then got...

Sharon and Ken here until flying out to Melbourne on 27th, so visit his Nanna. They arrived back on 2nd Sept and we decided to stay for the week so we would be here for both Pete and Rjay's birthdays. Sadly, Ken's Nanna passed away the evening before RJay's birthday. With delays to the funeral holding things up, they did not fly out to Melb again until the 12th Sept and came home again on 18th. Visiting Melbourne will never be the same for them again. We left on the 19th with an overnight stay at Outback Gold in Mt Magnet and arrived home...

Our busy year 2013

Jun 22, 2013 - Home - West Swan - Home

We arrived home from Newman Saturday afternoon, got busy and packed the van then headed off with Lorraine & Niel the 110kms to Perth Vineyards Big4 Caravan Park in West Swan, on Benara Road. We had stayed there in February for the Cliff Richard Concert at Sandalford Estate, and still had a day owing to us. Weather was absolutely perfect the 6 days we stayed there. We headed out each morning to different destinations - the Chocolate Factory, where we had a lovely lunch sitting in the sun in the lovely big area out the back, the Honey Place...

May 16, 2013 - Home - Newman - Walkaway - Home

Stayed overnight in Mt Magnet once more, at Outback Gold. Was lovely to be back with Sharon, Ken and boys. Shaz and Ken flew out on Wed 22nd, and for the following 15 days, we had a great time with the boys. Both were exceptionally well behaved. Poor RJay had one night unwell, but thankfully, we had no health dramas at all. Shaz and Ken both arrived home on Thursday 6th June, and we left for an overnighter in Mt Magnet on 11th June, arriving at Kath's on 12th. Headed for home on Saturday 15th.

Our busy year 2013

Mar 23, 2013 - Newman

Sharon and Ken's 'new' van towed really well and we did the 1000+kms in great time. Spent a lovely 9 days with them, getting plenty of 'special' time with the boys, especially Jacob, as RJay was at school each day. Sharon had heaps of work, leading up to Easter and we thoroughly enjoyed our hours with the boys. We spent Easter together for the first time in 6 years, and despite RJay ending up in hospital on Easter morning with croup, asthma and an infected throat, the boys had great fun with their 'loot' from the Easter Bunny. I slept...

Our busy year 2013

Aug 7, 2012 - Newman - 7-20 August

Got away nice and early before 6am and made it to Kumarina for our overnight stop, letting us arrive in Newman by 0800 next morning, just in time to catch Sharon leaving for school with the boys. We thoroughly enjoyed our 11 days with them all - not a lot to do, but we had the boys on the days Sharon worked and had a ball with them both. RJay broke his arm on Tuesday so that constricted his activities over the next week we were there. Jacob really adapted to us very well for a little lad - behaved really well, slept when he needed to and...
