Oct 25, 2016 - Margaret River to Greens Island Campground (just outside of Manjimup)

We left the west coast today and are now heading generally in an easterly direction. That said, we didn’t actually go very far today at all! Our aim was to head towards Windy Harbour which is south-east of Margaret River, but had thought we might stop at Greens Island Campground to break up the journey if we thought it was OK. We stopped briefly in Nannup to buy some bread rolls for lunch, then drove the next 30k or so to Greens Island campground. As from today we have entered forest country – a mix of different eucalypts including the...

Aug 23, 2015 - Manjimup

Sunday 23 August 2015 A very quiet and peaceful night in Manjimup. No wind or rain and woke to an early fog followed by beautiful blue sky and a crisp morning. Dot tried to sleep in, yep, the legs were telling her about her climb the previous day. First stop for the day was the info centre in Pemberton. Needed to find out about the Pemberton Tram Trip. One brochure told us it operates Monday to Saturday inclusive, and yet another said it operates every day. Didn't take long to find out it doesn't operate on Sundays! Plenty of other things...

Aug 22, 2015 - Walpole to Manjimup

Saturday 22 August 2015 A wild night in Walpole with plenty of rain and lots of wind. We were very well protected in the caravan park, but it sounded like a goods train was passing nearby during the night. At least we were facing the right way with our van, so had no flapping noises with the awning. Mavis said theirs sounded like someone was knocking on the door. Usual pack up and leave routine and set off for Manjimup, not too far away. Only 20 kms down the road when Mavis warned us they were stopped up ahead with a tree over the road, a...

Sep 17, 2012 - Manjimup (Manji to the locals)

16th September The kids are in big trouble this morning they have been caught eating the lemon trees. So they have been moved into the paddock with the lambs. Wonder how long they will stay there before making their escape. We have enjoyed our farm stay,a great experience. Time to move on. 17th September After packing up we head to Manjimup a pleasant hour and half drive. There was 11kms of dirt road, which was in fairly good condition. We passed through the small town of Nannup, the scenery was constantly changing with Karri forest and...

Sep 17, 2012 - Manjimup

Arrived in Manjimup after a very pleasant drive from Rosa Glen. There was 11 km of gravel road but it was better than some of the sealed road we encountered later on. Manji as it’s known to the locals is a larger town of around 5000 and is located at the northern end of the “Tall Timber Forests”. Apparently as far as trees go we have seen nothing yet…. This is a lovely park, on the South Western Hwy but below it and not noisy at all, huge sites and immaculately presented generally, if Swan Valley was 3.5 stars this place must be at least...

Jan 15, 2011 - Day of the Warren Hill

Ivan came home from a weeks shearing and took us for the ride of our life down the Summertime track along the beach, through the Meerup river which was quite shallow at the mouth and then way, way along to the mouth of the Warren River. Miles from nowhere and there were more people than Ivan had ever seen there. This section has some of their favourite fishing spots, but, we found there was too much weed floating around to catch anything. Ivan then suggested we try the famous "Warren Hill", this is composed of three sections, first getting...

Jan 14, 2011 - Northcliffe

Megan's day off so we did the rounds of the area, went out to Bannister Downs Dairy to view the factory where they process their own milk and pack it in special biodegradable containers, unfortunately they were between runs so we missed seeing it in action. Went out to view the Hollowbutt tree, it gave us some idea of the size of some of these trees. We then went partway down the "Summertime Track" to view some of the hidden features that only the locals know about. The girls sat in the car while I got dirty wrestling with the overgrowth...

Jan 13, 2011 - Northcliffe

Megan convinced us to view the South Forrest Sculpture Walk, which I found so exciting that Cyn had to prod me to keep me awake and walking. Cyn on the other hand quite enjoyed it because she was listening to the artists views on their interpretations of their sculptures on the Mp3 player provided as part of the walk.

Jan 12, 2011 - Exploring Windy Harbour

As Megan works during the afternoon we took ourselves off to Windy Harbour. As you can see from the photo's there is some spectatcular scenery around Windy Harbour, the "Windows" in particular scared the living daylight out of me as you are looking way down just in front of your nose. We went down on to Salmon Beach nearly cooking ourselves on the "red hot" sparkling white beach sand, then sinking ankle deep in the soft sand by the waters edge where the minerals in the sand made patterns in the water. It was torture trying to climb the...

Jan 11, 2011 - Manjimup to Northcliffe

After obtaining Megans address we set off for Northcliffe via Pemberton, which was a very scenic drive with lots of Karri trees on both sides of the road. Had some lunch at to Pemberton and took off in the four wheel drive through bush roads Moons Crossing, which is a natural ford in the river than has been enhanced slightly to make a safer crossing, unfortunately there was no water running at the time we arrived. We met up with a German lady who was travelling the Bibbulnum Track which commences at Kalamunda in the hills above Perth and...

Dec 17, 2008 - Shooting, Shearing and Driving Quad Bikes

Woke at 6.15 AGAIN!!! I showered and started on the computer to discover last night’s work was not saved!!! Sean and kids woke around seven. After dressing etc we had to help feed the fowls. Again, Liam and Rhiannon took it in their stride but it was a scream watching Miranda’s and Sara’s faces. The sheep then needed to be herded up to the top ready for shearing . That was an easy task ....when the shearer arrived Liam was nowhere to be found he had stayed behind in the games room after trying to help Mark and Sean find THAT SNAKE!!! And...

After Sonia and Chloe visiting and Maria and Claudia taking Liam to school...thanks for that, I took Sara and Miranda to the Kindy farewell picnic at the Strand.
