May 22, 2018 - Kununurra

Got away from Katherine around 7.30 and made good time to Kununurra. Back at the Discovery Park on the shores of Lake Kununurra, with a waterview site, so just beautiful all day. Refreshed the fridge with fresh vegies etc, as we cannot bring any across the border in to WA. However, have not had to do any cooking as, on the first night, there was a Texas Barbecue on offer just outside our van, and the next night, a sausage sizzle, so has been a lazy. lovely break. Casserole tonight from the cook-up of all our vegies a couple of days...

On The Road 2018

Aug 29, 2016 - Kununurra WA

Away from Katherine before 7am, arriving into Kununurra at noon...first time was NT time, the second WA time, so the travelling time was 6+1/2 hours, with a fuel and brunch stop at Timber Creek, before crossing the border back in to WA. We have a waterside site here so looking directly out onto the peaceful Lake Kununurra. Close to where we were with Anne and David back in June. Birthday dinner booking to be made in the morning for Pete, at the Pumphouse, where we celebrated my birthday back then. Had a lovely meal there again. We had...

Aug 8, 2016 - UPDATE NOTES Days 55 - 59

Hi All, We left Kakadu with the thought that the next few days would be quiet, how wrong, here we are now 98 photos later so it cannot have been quiet. Darwin was a little quiet, it was planned as a catch up stop for 5 nights and we did catch up on a few things that were essential for the car. We went to the Parap Markets which were brilliant, apparently the locals go there for breakie, unfortunately we had breakied already but no worries we ate some more anyway. That was followed by a trip to the Mindel Mindel markets and the sunset over...

On the river cruise we saw four crocodiles and beautiful birds. This last picture is a fresh water croc. It was a beautiful cruise because the sun rose and formed beautiful colors. We also saw some lotus water lillys After the river cruise the bus took us back to the camp ground and there was a frre breakfast for the people that did the river cruise. Jun 24, 2016 - Lake Argyle

Only 70 kms east from Kununurra, and we are back at Lake Argyle for just a couple of nights. Went on the sunset cruise the day we arrived - thought we had seen some of the best sunsets in our travels, or even at home, but this one just blew us all away - it was spectacular. Had a daily swim in the icy infinity pool - at least, Anne and I did - the guys both chickened out!! Left at 7am for the long drive through to Katherine, NT.

Jun 22, 2016 - Kununurra

Janette and Sharon talked us into staying another night so as to be able to watvh state of origin together again. We didn't need too much persuasion, so decided to spend the first part of the day by going for a drive to Lake Argyle. This is the lake that has formed as outcome of damming the Ord River. To say it is impressive would be an understatement. We drove over the spill way wall and down to a beautiful little park by the river for our lunch. I hope the photos speak for themselves as to what it was like. After we returned to camp, we...

Jun 22, 2016 - Kununurra WA - June 20 to June 22

Monday June 20 to Wednesday June 22 Kununurra – Town Caravan Park Got here very early Monday morning – we gained 1.5 hours when we crossed the border, again manned by mini gestapo types – I guess it must be a pretty mindless job checking for honey, fruit and vegetables! Found an auto electrician ($130 per hour!) but can’t get in until Wednesday morning, so here we are again in K – but there are still a couple of things we haven’t done in the area. I’m not sure what the mood of the town is at the moment as the government has just introduced...

Tardis Travels 2016

Jun 21, 2016 - Kununurra

Having 3 nights here, and all I can say is WOW!! Perfect location here on the Lake edge, close to town. Watched the second State of Origin Rugby last night and kudos to Qld for their 10/11 win. Deserved it, even though we were hoping NSW could pull off a victory!! Dave and Anne very happy though!! Caught up with Libby (a Katanning friend) for an iced coffee - lovely to see her again. She lost her 100 year old Mum earlier this year, who had been a family friend since 1955. Off to Lake Argyle tomorrow for two nights.

Jun 21, 2016 - Kununurra

Our day for dog sitting duties today, so I spent the morning was doing a bit of housework whilst Ian went into town in the morning to vote and have a look around. It was my turn to vote and shop in the afternoon. Bought some new shorts-have been living in shorts the whole trip and they are starting to show it! Also visited an aboriginal art centre-some really beautiful works, but all the ones I liked were of course the most expensive! Finished up buying a small bowl -hopefully will come in handy at some point! The dogs all behaved very...

Jun 20, 2016 - Kununurra

Started the day early by taking the dogs for a walk in preparation for them spending most of the day in their crates. We were at Information centre at 8.30 to pick up our passes for El Questro, then on the road soon after. El Questro is a wilderness resort/adventure holiday/safari type place and is the first stop from the Kunanurra end of the notorious Gibb River Road. We had decided that we were not set up to do the Gibb River Road (it is 660 kms of 4 wheel drive only road from Kunanurra to Derby) and not really suitable for caravans....

Jun 18, 2016 - Big Horse campground NT to Kununurra

Left Big Horse campground at about 9.30am and arrived at the NT/WA border about 12md NT time. Quarantine search was relatively quick and we were in Kununurra about 30 minutes later. Now we have to wind the clock back an hour and a half. We haved booked into Lakeside caravan park for 3 nights. Have had a relatively quiet afternoon getting set up, trying to work out what we want to go and see now that we are in the Kimberly and going to Coles to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Took the dogs for a walk around part of the lake where I found 2x...

Jun 1, 2016 - Wednesday Ist to 3rd of June Kununarra

I didn't realise how lovely Kununarra was until we booked two adjoining tours,Arriving in Kununurra we booked three nights in the Hidden Valley Caravan Park, it was the cheapest in town with a pool. We don't like leaving the bus in a free camp when we unhitch the car and tour around as we have heard plenty of stories of vans being broken into. That's why we go into parks when there are thing to do in that particular town. Yipeeee! my hair is getting coloured and cut today, so looking forward to it I think, lol hope she is good. Yep!she was...
