We arrived safely at Windjana around 5pm, a campsite that has a stunning limestone ridge as a back drop. With the heat cooling off, we decide to head up into the gorge. It has towering limestone walls on each side, and the sun brings out the different colourings as we approach sunset. There is a body of water almost immediately as we hit the start of the gorge, and not too far in, we see our first freshwater croc. From there on, we are blown away at how many crocs are out. Jul 3, 2004 - Fitzroy Crossing

On the way to Broome we passed small town called Fitzroy Crossing. It really is a desert town in the middle of nowhere, and I only mention it because we pulled into town as it was getting dark, looking for a place to pitch our tents and a couple of cheeky beers. We followed our noses to a tavern just off the main street and overlooking a park. AS we drove round the park towards the tavern it was clear this town had a large aboriginal population.
