Feb 13, 2013 - Carnarvon
Left Monkey Mia and travelled to Carnarvon, 370ks up the road. Arrived by lunch time, picked the park we wanted to stay at, another Top Tourist park. We aren't top tourist members as we are already Famiky Parks members and also Big 4 members. We can't be members everywhere was my thinking the last time we stated at a top tourist, but as it turns out we have stayed at top tourist parks enough to have made our membership money back with the members discount! Ah well! This park is being renovated so most of the sites are blocked off and there...

Sep 17, 2012 - Trains, museums and dishes
Bacon and eggs for breakfast and a short drive to the old jetty precinct. Here we took a leisurely 'train ride' out along the 1 mile jetty and visited the shearing and railway/jetty museum. While on the jetty we could see dolphins and schools of fish. The boys liked the old fire truck and the last of the steam engines to work the jetty. They are currently building a new information and museum centre (will be finished by November) - this should be excellent. After morning tea we visited the old light house museum next door and met a very...

Sep 16, 2012 - Blowholes and the trip to Carnarvon
Early start to fuel up and leave Coral Bay behind - the weather was perfect and the sea like glass. An uneventful drive towards Carnarvon with a lunch stop at Point Quobba. 50kms off the road is Point Quobba with the famous blowholes. We were not sure what to expect but when we arrived the sea was foaming white and the blowholes made a huge sound when the water/air flowed through. It was an incredible landscape and a lovely place to have lunch. It was surrounded by rolling sand dunes and scrubby mulga. We travelled back to the main highway...

Aug 26, 2012 - Is it all DOWNHILL from here??
80 mile beach. What a place. Except for no soap at the hand basins, the ablutions are spot on. Why the dedicated caravan parks can't have showers like these is beyond me. They have been the best all trip. Shower cubicle with a pivot glass door, so that you can step out into a large dry area to dry your self and get dressed without sloshing around in water. Plenty of hanging hooks and a large bench. You can't ask for more than that. The only other complaint I've got is there was no fish!! Same old story, "you should have been here...

Aug 13, 2012 - Cultural experience
13th August Driving along North and South River road we stocked up on some fresh fruit and vegetables from the plantations along the way. All naturally grown with plenty of flavour, not been in storage for months on end. Next stop was the aboriginal heritage centre. A permanent exhibition - a unique interactive and interpretative story of the history and culture of aboriginal people of the Gascoyne in their own words. After viewing some very expensive art and craft we then headed in to town. Time to do some shopping before we hit the...

Aug 10, 2012 - Blowholes & Quobba Station
10th August Left town this morning, heading to Quobba Station. Another beautiful part of Australia. First stop of the day was the lighthouse. After a short drive up a dirt track we got to view the coastal area and the blowholes. Starting to see the wildflowers, the colours are just beautiful. One kilometre south of the blowholes lies a beach, protected by a coral reef; contains tropical fish and shells. Camping is permitted but there is no fresh water. While walking along the beach a small boy came around the rocks sobbing, his mother...

Aug 8, 2012 - Adventures in Carnarvon
7th August After passing through the Tropic of Capricorn we arrived in Carnarvon. Staying at the Outback Oasis caravan park. A lovely park about 3 kms out of town. Carnarvon is located 904 kms north of Perth, sitting approximately 4m above sea level. Carnarvon is the only town in Australia where the central desert reaches out to the sea. The population is approx 9,O46[2,145 rural 6,901 urban] The towns waterfront is known as the Fascine, home to a variety of boats and water activities and is edged by a palm walkway. Apr 18, 2012 - Carnarvon
Carnarvon has always been an interesting place to visit. We never tire of the place everytime we visit. The blowholes near Quobba Station is a must see. As we left the Blowholes we decided to have a look at the camping area, which by the way you can stay for up to 3 months at $5.50 per person per night. Good fishing area. While driving around we came accross a monitor lizard who has just filled his belly. Quite at home he was underneath theawning of a deserted hut. From there we went and had a look at the Thermal hotspring and no you cannot...

Feb 3, 2012 - Denham to Carnarvon
5:30am wake up - this time intential! We left the caravan park an hour later and made our way to Monkey Mia. The dolphins arrived right on schedule and we were so thankful they did as the last few days they have not come in due to weather! It was pretty amazing to see them so close yet still wild. They are definately show offs! 5 lucky people were chosen to hand feed the dolphins which was pretty cool to watch! There are a few restrictions now a days - ie no touching or swimming with the dolphins, but at least you're still in the water with...

Oct 27, 2011 - Day 53 Red Bluff to Carnarvon
We were sad to say goodbye to Red Bluff, and after packing up, Mick and India went for one last swim. We even went to the office and bought everyone a souvenir t-shirt! Back to Carnarvan we went, for a spring clean of our clothes, bodies, beds and camper. It wasn't until I marvelled at a tap dispensing fresh running water, and a toilet that i could see the bottom of, that I realized just how far from our usual comforts we had been for 5 days. Saying that, we had loved every minute of our Bluff adventure. Carnarvan was a lot busier on this...

Oct 22, 2011 - Day 48 & 49 Carnarvon to Red Bluff
Our next ultimate destination was Red Bluff, a remote surfing break reached by driving south from Cape Range National Park, but then going back north to a peninsular. But before we could go there, we needed to make an overnight stop in Carnaravan to stock up on food, recharge batteries for fridge, freezer etc, as we would be without power and fresh water for as many days as we could last. The drive from the national park to Carnarvan was about 450km, and took us back through Coral Bay where we just had to stop for another of those pies we...
