Apr 1, 2017 - Cape Range National Park

30 March - Cape Range National Park Yet another beautiful morning, had some breakfast, Ruth put in a load of washing and then we started to get ready to leave. By the time we had packed everything up, the washing was dry but we were all sweaty, so another visit to the shower for a quick rinse and dry off walking back to the car! On the road, Ruth called in at the bakery to get something for lunch, and then we were off. Out from Coral Bay to the Minilya-Exmouth road and heading north once more. Wide open plains with grass on the right and on...

Apr 12, 2014 - Swimming with the whale sharks

Early this morning we met the Exmouth Dive Centre bus to go out to the Ningaloo reef. A few others came from this caravan park including a Japanese girl Meehaw, . We drove around to the dive centre and after a few preliminaries we were on our way to the Tantabiddy boat ramp. Everyone both crew and passengers were all friendly and the crew couldn't have been more helpful. We first went out to the boat and got ready to snorkel from the back of the boat. Shane the captain went through the safety briefing and then the crew checked how good...

Apr 11, 2014 - Oyster stacks

Today is the day we leave Osprey Bay and today is my birthday. We got up early for our last walk and bike ride and then headed out to catch the high tide at Oyster Stacks, stopping to say goodby to Morris and Lyn who have been the most excellent hosts and a lovely couple. Oyster Stacks is the name of a beach a bit further north. You have to go there at high tide to snorkel as the coral is right off the beach. Actually there is no beach to speak of as you have to enter the water from the rocks. We saw the most amazing coral and hundreds of...

Apr 10, 2014 - Another magic day

Another magic day unfolds and after we had our walk and bike ride we took the boat straight out to the reef. The water is very calm and we moored right on the edge of the reef. I went off the edge of the boat backwards into the water and David came in soon after that. We had the best snorkelling day yet with so many beautiful fish and gorgeous coral. This coral experience is definitely the best so far. The water is so clear and a beautiful aqua. We stayed in the water for quite a while David taking photos and video. Afterwards we headed...

Apr 9, 2014 - Magic

This place is magic. Osprey Bay is truly the nicest place on earth to come and relax away from it all. You do have to bring everything but the toilet with you, but everything about it is beautiful and what a magnificent day it is today. David having got all his fishing tackle in order wanted to get out there before the wind got up. I was a little slower off the mark but eventually we got it all together to go out on the boat. Morrie and Lyn were down there too launching their boat and helped David with an idea to get the boat over sand....

Apr 8, 2014 - Back to town

This morning has turned out to be beautiful and it's such a pity we couldn't have gone into town yesterday. When we went to leave the battery was flat on the truck so we had to start the gennie early to get the battery charged up enough to start the engine. We drove the 70 kilometers into Exmouth with lots of jobs to do. First of all going to the Betta Electrical for a kettle as our kettle has been leaking. You could have Sunbeam, or Sunbeam, or Sunbeam! So we got Sunbeam. Then on to the fishing shop to fit out the rods. David seems to be...

Apr 7, 2014 - The wind is a'blowing

We woke up to quite a strong wind this morning. David went off on his bike ride and I went on my walk. We came back to the big weigh in. We're losing weight and getting the diet right. The wind has blown all day and the sun has had a struggle to come out. The awning started to come loose and Morrie came down to help David fix it. Morrie and Lyn have been wonderful camp hosts and are here for three months. Camp hosts are volunteers who go to National Park camps, make sure everyone is there who are meant to be there and generally maintain...

Apr 6, 2014 - A Sandy Bay

This morning David went for a long bike ride and. I walked out to the road which is probably a kilometer or two. It took around twenty minutes there and back with a brisk walk. David had a very good bike ride and we are feeling the benefit of exercise and good diet. We had some of wind today but it died down in the afternoon so we went out on the boat. After going around the headland we went to a sandy bay and had a dip. It was quite shallow there with rocks a bit further out. The sun was hot and we sunbathed a bit before heading back out...

Apr 5, 2014 - Fishing with Jack

This morning was beautiful and David got talking to the man in the lot next door. He came over and introduced himself as Jack. Jack is a young man from California and he is working as a carpenter in Karatha. He came over and David and Jack got chatting and we learned he was a fisherman. David asked him if he'd like to go out in the boat and he said he would. They had to travel north about three kilometers to find a good deeper fishing spot near the reef. While they were out there they saw a very large turtle, and a shark which tried to...

Apr 4, 2014 - The boat ladder

It's been taking a while to get going in the mornings so we went out at high tide around lunchtime which was a good idea as there is plenty of water over the coral. We got out to the reef and anchored with a reef anchor borrowed from the campground hosts, Morris and Lyn. It just gently hooks onto the coral without damage to it. With much fear and trepidation I donned my snorkel and mask and flippers for the backward fall out of the boat. This nearly capsized it as David was sitting on the opposite side. This boat is unsinkable but I don't...

Apr 3, 2014 - Snorkelling

Today we got the boat down and have it moored at the little beach inlet. Morris came by and helped with the awning. The Ningaloo reef is just out from the beach. The water is very light green and very clear. It is in the 30's every day and about 20 or so at night. It is very pleasant. We sat in our chairs outside after dinner and just looked at the stars and the Milky Way. So magnificent. You can't possibly deny God after looking at his creation. This is such a beautiful and relaxing place. We went out in the boat today and David tried out...

Apr 2, 2014 - Osprey bay

I awoke very early feeling so under the weather. After going back to bed and then talking to David we decided and made the decision not to go back to Melbourne and Sydney. This entailed cancelling all the flights, cancelling appointments, talking to Family, and cancelling going to Sydney for a friend's birthday. We are so disappointed not to see family, especially our daughter in law and granddaughter visiting from Spain. It would have been so good, but you can't do more than you are able. It's good to get all these jobs done before we go...
