May 13, 2014 - A lovely time at the beach in Broome

We enjoyed time at the beach with The family and we spent a lot of time in the sea. Belinda went for her early morning run. There is so much water and surf. The boys are loving it and are so fearless, diving through the waves. We brought the boogie board down to the beach and the boys loved it. We spent time around the pool at Cable beach resort and then cycled back to the caravan park for lunch and a rest. There are many family and friends coming in for David's big birthday at the end of the week. We went to pick up Adam and Lisa from the...

May 12, 2014 - The warm sea

We had an early morning walk and dip in the sea with Belinda and Noah and Moses. The sea is so warm at 29oC. I didn't think there was surf here but Cable Beach has a huge volume of water and very high tides up to 9 or 10 meters. As David, Noah and Moses were jumping the waves a dolphin shot through the wave of the surf chasing fish. Belinda and I at first thought it was a shark then realised it was a dolphin. It was very exciting. There were two of them chasing fish and the fish were jumping out of the water.

May 11, 2014 - Family arrive

As we were contemplating what time The family were getting here we realised that the time we thought the plane was coming in was in fact two hours earlier. So instead of cycling to the church and then out to the airport as we thought, we had to get there early for the 10.40 am arrival of the plane. Oh what excitement and joy we had to see them all. What a change from Melbourne. We got the hire cars and drove the short distance to the Cable Beach resort to check them in. The kids loved the warm weather and the warm pool. We left them to go...

May 8, 2014 - Getting fit

David went out for his early morning bike ride and then breakfast and a swim. He rode out to Gantheume Point, into town and back. Another swim is in order then a ride into town this afternoon. Broome is quite a large town but has a small town feel. It's good to explore the shopping areas.

May 7, 2014 - Sad trip to Broome

A very, very difficult week - we all had to come to terms with saying our Goodbyes to Jeremy. Spent the nights with Trevor (Pete's Brother) and his wife, Glennis, who were more than happy to let us come and go as we needed to this week. He even lent us his pride and joy - his Monaro - complete with chain bolted to the floor for the security, unlockable doors, un-openable windows - and so forth!!! Spent most of the time with the family at Jeremy and Heather's home. A constant stream of visitors, almost as upset as we, with Jodie's friends...

May 7, 2014 - Looking around

We went out exploring on our bikes this morning, all round Cable Beach and we had a look at the other Caravan parks. We decided we had made a good choice. The Palm Grove Caravan park is close to the beach and only a short walk to the Cable Beach Resort. We also had a look at where some of our friends will be staying next week when they come up to Broome for David's birthday. We then headed into town for a look around. David went out on the old jetty and just as well he was concentrating as it falls straight off the end into the Mangroves....

May 6, 2014 - Broome

We arrived in Broome late afternoon and went to the post office where We picked up some mail. David gave me a fright as he was backing. He couldn't see where he was driving because of the sun and nearly hit the car behind. I had to bang on the side to make him stop. Scary! We picked up our supplies from Coles and the Kimberley beef shop Yeeda. Anyone coming into Broome should try this meat shop. Then on to the visitor centre to get the information on Broome. Met Dee at the counter who was very warm and personable. We headed off to Cable...

Just a short update.7th November. As it was Steph's birthday yesterday we went out to the Cable Beach Club for a few cocktails and watch the sunset. As you can see from the photos we had a good night. Steph also wanted to show of her birthday present ( matching pearl necklace and earrings) The sunsets up here have amazing colors. We were going to also go to the outdoor movies but we were not up to it by the end of the night (Not sure why ??) so we just came back to the caravan.

Nov 6, 2013 - Broome

3rd November Well a bit of a quiet day in Broome today, the weather is HOT and HUMID so we haven't travelled very far, keeping near the water. The airconditioner in the van is not working, I have called a tech but not seen him yet. It is so hot of an evening that it is very hard to get to sleep. 5th November We went and had a look at the museum today, very small but a very interesting place. Told us all about the bombings that occurred during the war, also a lot of stories of the pearl industry and how it all started. Had lunch at the...

Nov 3, 2013 - Broome

1st October We left Barn Hill at 10 am to head towards Broome, as I have said before the road (!) out of Barn Hill is a bit corrugated and has three gates that have to be opened and shut. Today it took me 35 minutes to travel the 9kms to the highway, yep it was a slow old trip but I wasn't going to risk damaging the caravan or car. We had around 140kms to go to Broome and we arrived there early afternoon. Booked into the Roebuck Bay Caravan Park which had been recommended to us, we are a bit disappointed as it doesn't have a pool and is a...

Oct 30, 2013 - Barn Hill

30th October Well today we headed of from Port Hedland towards Broome. As we were leaving we noticed two huge over width loads also about to leave. These trucks had the trays of the large ore trucks on the back, I managed to be in front of them as we left, as I thought I would be traveling quicker than them, but before long the pilot vehicle passed me and I looked in the mirror to see the two huge loads behind me. I radioed the pilot vehicle and told him that when I had a chance I would pull over and let them passed as obviously they would...

Sep 2, 2013 - Broome

(Ben) This morning we are leaving Broome, making our way gradually down the west coast. On the whole (for most of us at least) it's been a really nice time in Broome, and it was finished up with a great BBQ on the beach at sunset last night. Together with Kev and Tania, we took the Weber down onto Cable Beach, cooked up the meat while the kids had a swim and play, and the sun set, and then ate in almost darkness. Kev then organised a bit of a game with the kids involving lots of tearing round in the dark on the sand. Unfortunately Sal has...
