Dec 20, 2014 - Visiting family

We arrived in Wonthaggi last night and It's been lovely to spend time with Jenny and Lionel. Tonight we all went out to San Remo to the Chinese restaurant there. We really enjoyed the food. We had the banquet for four. We had a very pleasant time and afterwards we drove over to Cowes and walked on the beach and checked out the lanes along the foreshore. We have never been to Rhyll before but went there this time. It is a fairly uncommercial place and we really liked it. We then drove back to San Remo for the lighting of the Christmas tree....

Oct 15, 2013 - The clock

We visited sister Jenny and Lionel's in Wonthaggi. We had a lovely time together. Lionel made us a clock to go in the motorhome. It is a brilliant job and we love to have things that remind us of those we love as we travel. It looks great in the motorhome.

Apr 11, 2007 - Phillip Island

We had rented a car from the airport so we took this day to drive down to Phillip Island for the day. It was interesting driving in the crazy city of Melbourne because you are allowed to drive on the tram tracks. I have a whole new appreciation for other people visiting Calgary who don't know how to drive in our city. Anyways it took a couple hours to drive to the island. Our first stop was Cape Woolamai surf beach. Then we went to the Koala Conservation Centre where we saw a ton of koalas. Next we drove to the other side of the island...

Last day in this part of Australia We had arranged to hire a car, which turned out to be a Toyota Corolla, It was manual too and after the previous cars of all being automatic and some power, this was just like a pedal car, and not that nice, still it went, we headed out towards the coast and to Phillip Island, We called in on the way at 'Fountain Gate' which for you Kath & Kim fans is the shopping centre that a lot of filming was done, We got a chino in the famous food court. The shopping centre is full of what I would call Essex type...

Mar 15, 2006 - Melbourne Common Wealth Games

Melbourne, the home of Lezanne and Heath, my hosts for my 4-day stay here! Also the venue for the Melbourne 2006, XVIII Commonwealth Games and I managed to arrange to hit the beginning few days! 4500 athletes from 71 nations, representing one third of the world's population were due to compete, so Zan, her sister Kerith and myself headed to Federation Square to watch the grand opening ceremony on the big screen. Such was the event that even the Queen popped over to read her message that has been carried on a microchip in the Commonwealth...

Feb 6, 2006 - Philip Island

Nov 30, 2005 - Foster - Melbourne

Another early start for us this morning, but this time the breakfast wasn't as huge! And there was A LOT of washing up to do as the other group had left us with theirs too. How nice. We left Foster and set off for the long drive to Melbourne. Our first stop (and this was our favourite bit!!) was Wilson's Promontory, a huge national park right on the most southern tip of Australia, and we really got good weather for it - the sun shone all day! Yippee! We went on a 7km walk, which took us to the top of Mount Bishop. The views were absolutely...

Jan 5, 2005 - Great ocean road , spoon bending in the Rain Forest & Penquins

5th/6 of Jan/05 We decided to risk the weather and set off on the great coast road, skipping between the showers we saw all the major rock formations, including the 12 apostles, then we set off for Apollo Bay, where all the sites were full or they wanted money for no power sites. We turned inland and parked up in the rainforest, where overnight the van settled a little,it would not move accept downwards. Graeme did a spoon digging job and filled the areas with gravel, which permitted the necessary grip and we were able to ecape the clutches...

Dec 19, 2004 - Phillip Island - Little Penguins!

Went on this day trip to Phillip Island to see this nightly event where around a 1000 of these little penguins (Around 30cm high) all congregate in the surf as it gets dark and then race up the beach in their little groups with their bellies loaded with fish from the days hunting. Ahh, they're sooo cute - they walk a little way up, get spooked and run back in again! Soo funny! Unfortunately you can't take photo's as the flash stuns them too much and makes them re-gurgitate their catch and run away, wasting the whole day but I'm going to get...
