Nov 1, 2013 - Back to the ocean

(Sal) We reached the Great Ocean Road today! I'm glad we deviated inland for a bit to breathe in the Grampians' cool, fresh foresty air. It also meant that we got to drive along some quieter back roads. It's fun to not know what's around the bend and be open to checking out whatever comes around. Remember - this is not me normally! Today we headed towards the victorian coast in a roundabout way... We went through Halls Gap and then northish to the town of Stawell (pronounced 'stall'). Heard of the Stawell Gift? It's an annual 120m sprint...

Mar 15, 2009 - Princetown - Grt Ocean Road

Walked up to the 'Pinnacle' through the 'Grand Canyon' in the Grampians. Drove to Horsham! and Woolermaroo the weather had taken a turn for the worst dark rain clouds and heavy showers. Not ideal for viewing the coast line. Stopped off at London Bridge (rock formation that once was joined to the land) the Bay of martyrs (were I went for a swim in the Southern Ocean), Loch Ard the site of a maritime disaster where only two people survived a young lad and a girl he rescued from Ireland (a proper Titanic story that the Aussie's were going to...

Nov 24, 2007 - The Great Ocean Road

We started off from Melbourne at the ridiculously early start of 6:15am! The bus was a bit of a squeeze with the day packs and every seat was full. Our first stop was Torquay for breakfast and a look round the outlet shops with Rip Curl, Quicksilver and all the rest. Things were still not too cheap so we didn't bother buying anything. We continued on to Bells Beach, a famous surfing beach. This was a nice introduction to the Australian coastline. Unfortunately things got a bit more interesting next. There was an odd smell on the bus and the...
