Kate & I decided that we better break in our hiking boots before we leave for NZ so we headed off to the Grampians for the Melbourne Cup weekend - taking our friend Zoe with us. After an eventfull 7 hour trip which should have lasted no more than 4 hours we finally arrived at our destination - the Emu Holiday Park in Wartook. We only had 2 days of walking ahead of us. Susie picked us up at the hostel just before 10 in the morning and we drove off towards The Grampians. Our first stop was a conservation reserve where we saw loads of emus, many of them in the water and I managed to get a leech on my foot - it was very cold and difficult to get off - yuk yuk! We also saw 2 koalas and both were awake! In fact the second one we saw was on the road in front of the car and as we got out of the car to watch it, it jumped up a tree - for an animal that sleeps 20 hours a day and had a reputation for being lazy, it...
