Jan 1, 2014 - Tasmania

01/01/2014 HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL! Today we caught the ferry Spirit of Tasmania to Tasmania. It is more like a cruise ship and I was really surprised. There were 3 eating places from fancy to cheap. 3 or 4 bars and even a Casino. As it was a night trip we booked the Ocean recliners, which were like plane seats but much more room and they go back further. Still didn’t get any sleep, there were cabins if you would like but at a cost. Arrived at 6.00 in the morning and we had booked into the Latrobe Caravan Park but as it was too early we parked...

Jan 25, 2013 - Burnie to LaTrobe

Today Steph did the washing and we decided to leave the van in the park and go for a bit of a drive around the area. We did a bit of a loop and found some nice waterfalls and we also drove through the Gunns Plains area which is a valley of farms and when you drive into it the views are very pretty. Even though again we have the rain following us everywhere.

Today we are getting ready to take off tomorrow towards the East Coast of Tasmania, the weather is supposed to be getting a bit warmer so we decided to go over there. I washed and vacuumed the car to give it a good clean out and then re packed it. Steph has done a bit of washing as well, so all will be clean for the next leg of the journey.

Day 37, Week 6. Fuel 11.3 lt per 100 kms. 184kms. Today we were doing more tourist stuff, we headed of to an attraction we had heard of called Tasmazia,. This is a great spot for both kids and adults. They have eight mazes and a miniature village called "Village of Lower Crackpot" When you enter the maze area you are given a list of 20 or 30 things to find. Probably the maze that grabbed our sense of humor was the "Irish Maze" you entered it and turned 3 corners then you were out of it !! All around the mazes there are small little funny...

Dec 3, 2008 - Latrobe

Little town nearby - Latrobe. Saw a platypus - not for more than 10 seconds, but it was a real thrill. Joel spotted it as we drove along the riverbank. Tomorrow night we hope to see more on a little tour. Latrobe is a cute little town with heaps and heaps of antique shops. Went into one emporium which is probably the most amazing shop I have ever seen. They give you a map to orient yourself around as you enter. About 15 rooms. Some kitchy lots of toys, Sciency things. Books. Scary things - including life size manniquins that talk as you...
