Jan 31, 2013 - Day 13 UPDATE NOTES
Hi All, Not even a week since the last entry but we have done heaps and a lot more to go. We toured around Albury on the NSW and Victorian borders where we have not toured before and found it interesting. A short run through a couple of villages led us to Beechworth a very interesting old township where we found a cafe called of all things Beechworth Bakery, it was that busy we could not get in. Lots of tourist type shops but a cute place. Moving on, we went to Bendigo as we did not want to go all the way to Melbourne on a 4 lane highway....

Jan 24, 2013 - Burnie
Today we have had a short day on the road traveling from Wynyard to Burnie. Once we booked in to a caravan park we went for a drive to the tourist center to see what was available to do. As there was a paper making tour about to start we went on that, this was very interesting and lasted about 30 minutes. We made our own sheet of of paper with a little print on it. We then had a look around the center at all the display's of the people of Burnie, glass blowing, paper statues, wood works and burnt paper prints etc, all good to see. This took...

Jan 24, 2013 - Wynyard
I totaly forgot when I did the entry yesterday about us going to the Tourist Information Centre at Wynyard which also included a display of very rare vehicles that have been restored over many years by a local man. I will put up some photos. One of the vehicles is the 31st Ford ever built, this vehicle was driven around Australia in 2003 by the restorer and his wife. Most of the vehicles are Fords but the are Cadillac s and also a number of other very rare vehicles. There is also a display of Penny Farthing push bikes and 1 Indian motor...

Mar 29, 2009 - Burnie, Tasmania
Tasmania is Australia’s smallest state, just 380 kilometers long; only 200,000 people live here. It truly is somewhere else. Scientists feel that once upon a time all the continents were one giant continent. Over time Australia broke away and New Zealand and Tasmania broke away from it. As glaciers retreated from Tasmania at the end of an ice age they carved a rugged landscape and it still has a far cooler climate than the rest of the country. Aussies come here for a breath of cool clean air. Plants that died off as the rest of Australia...

Feb 23, 2009 - Burnie, Tasmania
Today we pulled into Burnie, Tasmania, the home of the Tasmanian Devil. Tasmania is an Australian State and is a large Island just south of the main continent of Australia. We did not have an organized tour today, but 1 goal on the list was to see the DEVIL! We disembarked the ship and were greeted on the dock by the Mayor of Burnie. He was greeting the ship to make a presentation to the Capt. because it was the first time the Royal Princess was visiting this port of call. Right off the Mayor was super friendly and we quickly learned that...

Oct 28, 2006 - Our First Campervan Rally
Jeff's account. Sylvia had arranged through Al for us to gate crash a Campervan Rally so on arrival in Tasmania at 7.15am, we set off from the boat to join the Van Demons of Tasmania. On the way I stopped for Diesel and I thought I could not be more embarrassed than when we spoke with the quarantine officer on boarding the boat. Wrong. We got out the manual again to find out how to open the fuel cap. Sylvia found a lever and pulled, the pump attendant said, "Well you now know how to open the bonnet". Eventually I got it by accident; I...

Feb 13, 2005 - Wynyard
Planned to spend a few more days in Devonport but no room available so moved a few miles west to Wynyard. Pretty basic park but clean - very hard site to get large van into - surprised myself by getting it right! Before leaving Devonport we visited Launceston to see what changes there had been since our honeymoon 40 years ago - took launch trip up the Cataract gorge (walked it the first time!) still beautiful. Also visited strange attraction 'Penny Royal' built 20 years ago in a disused quarry next to the gorge. Contains boat (barge) trip...
