Dec 5, 2012 - Siteseeing around Streaky Bay

Day 12 We spent the day sightseeing around this area. There will be photos uploaded within a few days (we took a large number of photos) We had a look around an area south of Streaky Bay. Some great beaches and stunning cliff faces that go straight down into the ocean. The highlight would have to be an area called Point Labatt where there is a colony of Seal Lions that were bathing on the rocks and beaches. The public stand on a lookout above the area and on the edge of a cliff which overlooks the rocks, it was a nice fine day but the wind...

Dec 4, 2012 - Day 10 Fowler Bay to Streaky Bay

Day 10, Fuel average 18.9 lt per 100kms. We left Fowlers Bay around 10 am, the road out was a bit rough but it was only 10kms before the bitumen. We headed through Penong and stopped at a very informative rest area, got a few tips from travellers going back to Perth, also exchanged fuel prices with them. We then headed to Ceduna and we stopped at the check point, we were then told we should not have given away our honey, as we did when leaving Fowler Bay. We had been told that we could not take honey into SA. Did a little shop at Ceduna,...

May 10, 2012 - Winner!

Thursday 10th May A "Bowls Widower" today. Dropped Di off at the bowls club at 9.00am. What to do? Well the great "Hunter/Gatherer" set forth again. While someone was out enjoying themselves bowling, I went driving along the coastal tracks looking for a decent place to fish. Found one! Went back and collected the tackle box, bucket, rod and reel and put them in the car. Lunch time. Pie shop looked like the best place today. This is happening while I'm waiting for the tide to come in. Went back to the "secret men's business" fishing...

May 6, 2012 - Saturday 5th May

Went in convoy with Greg & Noelene to do a couple scenic tours today. First one Cape Bauer Loop Drive. First stop was Halys Beach. Lovely beach, and the photo's don't do the scenery justice. The only person down on the beach was a fisherman. Didn't see him catch anything while we were watching. A surfer did show up but was reluctant to venture down. Off shore breeze in this bay so maybe the swell wasn't big enough for him. Next stop was the whistleing rocks and blow holes. The whistleing rocks weren't too loud today, again because...

May 6, 2012 - Nearly up to date!!!!

Friday 4th May Just a lazy day today. Can't say that I haven't earned either. It is a long drive. We are working out our itinery from here on. Nothing finalised yet. Good to catch up with Grumpy & Noelene, going on a tour tomorrow around a couple of scenic loops. You may notice that the entries are getting shorter. That is because this is the third repeat third time I have sat at this computer to do this. Twice repeat twice I was nearly up to date and when I went to save it to upload, The bloody thing had TIMED ME OUT AND I LOST THE...

Episode 4 of 5 – Eyre Peninsula Elliston to Streaky Bay Streaky Bay is 2268kms from Dunsborough. Our last night at Elliston was really hot and balmy and we were woken frequently during the night by really strong winds buffeting the van (quite violently at times). To add insult to injury our next door neighbours decided to pack up and leave at around 5:00am and made such a racket, we couldn’t get back to sleep after they departed at around 6:00am – selfish drongo’s. The actual drive from Elliston to Streaky Bay was quite scenic with wheat...

Living the Dream

Aug 4, 2011 - Streaky Bay

Wow what a day!!! Drove around the cliff tops and out to the Sea lion Colony at Pt. Labbat. The whispering rocks was exciting even if the stairs were a challenge and the blowholes weren’t blowing but the whispering rocks were roaring as the waves pushed air thru cracks in the rock. The sea though rough by my standards was calm by Great Australian Bight standards. Most of the sea lions were simply resting, trying to warm in the sun (presumably after being let out of their pens) but some were wandering around and some were surfing. Oh I’m...

Aug 3, 2011 - Streaky Bay

Lovely drive today from Port Lincoln to Streaky Bay thru quite scenic country, sort of like coastal NSW…. Stopped at Elliston for a break and look around. Most picturesque town with of course an “historic jetty” and nice beaches. We are at Streaky Bay Foreshore CP. Very nice here, some of the longer term sites are right on the beach which could be interesting in the event of a spring tide. Excellent amenities and quite large sites if a little difficult to get onto, Mr Gnome had to change sites as he could not get his jockey wheel under the...

May 6, 2011 - Streaky Bay

Well I thought Port Lincoln national Park was beautiful, but Streaky bay is up there. We only drove 368km today so we got to enjoy the caravan park, especially the hot water! The park is right on the water so the kids went fishing but I told them to go in the water to cast out which they did but they ended up putting the rods down and swimming, throwing jelly fish at each other and looking for cockles. The cockles were for bait but it was a waist so we ate them, I tried to ask a few people how to cook them but i didn't ask the right ones...

Gormans Getaway

Apr 19, 2011 - Border Village to Streaky Bay

It was a really warm night for a change and we were ready to hit the road by 0800. Had a great run through to Nullarbor Roadhouse, where the true Nullarbor Plain - the Treeless Plain - begins at last - kilometres of grasslands as far as one can see with nothing higher than maybe 60cms!! We turned off at Head of the Bight and with a sealed road right to the Centre, it would be classed as a wonderful stop - except for the FLIES!! Just incredible number - I had my net hat on and so many commented on the suitability - they had sold out of them...

Around Aus in 2011

Dec 1, 2010 - Streaky Bay

Click on an image to enlarge it. Streaky Bay 1st to 5th December 2010 Streaky Bay is a lovely seaside town with a nice jetty for catching fish, squid and crabs. The caravan park was situated on the waters edge, we couldn’t have asked for more. We went exploring around the area firstly heading south down the coast on a dirt road to Sceale Bay seeing some spectacular coastline and lovely sandy beaches. We continued on to Point Labatt when there is a Sealion Colony. They have constructed a viewing platform high on the cliff that overlooks...
