Apr 4, 2017 - Day 2

Hi All, Welcome to Day 2 of our trip. After our stay at Sea Lake last night, we headed into the great metropolis of Sea Lake. It's a shame to see this town now; in the main street, there are only about half of the shops that are occupied. I remember staying there as a kid at my cousins and it was thriving...OK, so that may have been a little while ago, but sad all the same. After grabbing a coffee, we headed off to Red Cliffs where we had lunch. The trip was quiet, but pretty good until we got stuck behind a Grey Nomad (I know what you are...

Mar 23, 2014 - On the Murray River

Awake to a cloudy morning. The mood of the river quite different from yesterday. Today it is still & green & very quiet. A couple of crows (?) making a noise, a few other bird noises, a fish or 2 rising & a pelican swam towards me & then took off as I went up on deck. Otherwise no signs of life. The birds gradually became more active, a pelican came visiting, crows & cormorants appeared & a few cockatiels left their roost in the trees opposite. Later in the morning we left our mooring to venture a little further upstream to tie up for...

Mar 22, 2014 - On the Murray River

We had to move on before breakfast as we were moored in another boat's spot & it was expected back today. We found another spot & moored for breakfast & ablutions. A lovely sunny day on the river. Later we set off again & moored on the bank further upstream. The view is spectacular. We are on a bend in the river, moored again the bank & tied up to a couple of gum trees. There are a couple of other houseboats moored on the same side but further upstream. We can easily hop ashore & walk along the bank. I have been watching the bird life....

Jan 19, 2014 - Trip on the paddlesteamer industry

Joshie went on his first paddlesteamer today and loved it. Was a beautiful trip and not too hot clicking in at 23 deg. The Murrary river is very different to echuca with wide rivers and high banks. Back to the club for a cold beer and pizza before heading back for a swim.

Jan 17, 2014 - Day in renmark

Another hot day!!! Lucky we have the pool and aircon at the supermarket to cool us down. Fires in west renmark leaving the air quite smokey but far enough away from ya for the time being. Even monash where we came from has fires overnight can't believe the country is that vulnerable at the moment.

Feb 17, 2013 - Renmark

Well today we left Janet and headed to Renmark where we are staying in a very nice caravan park on the edge of the Murray River. (see the photos)The weather has been HOT HOT HOT, I know it wasn't that long ago we were complaining about having rain everywhere, well we have stopped complaining about the rain !! Although where Janet lives at Pinaroo is so dry and they need rain and a lot of it. Not long after we got to the caravan park I headed of to the pool, very impressed at how it and everything else is set up in this park, very clean and...

Nov 24, 2012 - Airboat ride and swimming

Warm morning as we ventured to the Farmer's Market in Berri to pick up some cheap peaches ($4/kg) and to look at the aboriginal dream time mural underneath the bridge. We pulled up over the river in Berri at the houseboat precinct where the air boat ride was. While waiting, Brian who was our guide, allowed us to have a look at the 2 houseboats for hire - Ranger (2 bedroom) and Oasis (5 bedroom). They were really beautiful - must come back to hie one. We took the air boat for a spin for over 90minutes along the Murray river - with a V8 on...

Nov 20, 2012 - Port Augusta to renmark via port pirre, Clare valley and burra.

Today was suppose to be a short day of driving maybe even just to port Augusta. Instead it turned out to be one of the longest travelling day yet! We pulled into port Augusta and didn't really see much to stop for. I was keen to go to port Pierre only because it sounded like a nice place although the write up in lonely planet isn't much. Turns out its quite cute town and we stop to let joshie have a run round the play ground. It's one of the best public grounds so far and we let him stay for quite sometime. It's still early so Marc and I...

Oct 17, 2012 - The Murray at Renmark

18th October Leaving Clare this morning we passed through several historic towns, vineyards and farmlands. A very picturesque and relaxing drive. Stopping at Barmera for a break which lasted 5 minutes after being bombarded by little flying ants. They were every where, all over the car, coming through the vents. A shame,it was a pretty spot for a rest. Arrived in Renmark prior to lunch, this will be our stop tonight. Staying at the Riverbend Caravan Park. The park is situated on the Murray River about 3 kms out of Renmark and walking...

Oct 12, 2012 - Driving to........

Later start, kids asleep till 8am and cold morning. First few hours still driving through the flat, desolate landscape. Had decided to turn east north of Adelaide and travel along the Sturt to check out some places along the Murray. Found ourselves driving past the doorstep of the Barossa so decided to make some stops. Briefly popped into the cellar door of two of our favourites, Rockfords and Turkey Flat. Remembered what a beautiful spot the Barossa is to visit! Subsequently changed our destination from Mildura to Renmark, just before the...
