Oct 21, 2018 - Port Hughes to Carramulka, west of Port Vincent

21/10/2018. Sunday. Sunny, blue sky, cool wind Port Hughes to Carramulka I woke with a start this morning, thinking it was an hour earlier than it was. Time to get up anyhow, and check out of the caravan park. When we took the keys back I said I’d like a refund and got stunned looks. I then said that we arrived on a beautiful sunny day and were leaving on a beautiful sunny day, but the 2 days we’d spent there were miserable with cold winds! The staff looked quite relieved when they saw that I was joking. For the third time on this trip,...

04/10 Had a slow start today and tinkered around before moving off. We caught up with a couple that we met in Alice Springs who were also camped at Port Julia this morning. We will probably catch up with them again as they are going the same way as we are. Then we took the long drive of 20km to Port Vincent to the caravan park there. Very cosy, crammed in like sardines, but we decided we only sleep there so we take off every chance we get. Had a great long walk along the cliff tops today and saw 2 stingrays and 1 shark. Sat on the stoney...

Off to the ovens the lot of you!!! Or perhaps that should be kilns… So after Mr Gnome woke at dawn to capture some stunning pictures of “Dawn at Port Vincent” we drove down the coast as far as Edithburgh and then across to Yorketown for lunch with Daryl and Leslie from the ABB forum (where as you would know I am moderator in chief). Enroute we came across a rather well preserved limekiln at Wool Point, apparently it was never a commercial success through bad design rather than lack of material to process (it appears that all of the Yorke...

Due to an administrative error we are now in beautiful Port Vincent. Really lovely here FPA park on the beach @ AU$23.40/night. All new amenities, new BBQ's etc. Its all "Karen's" fault, she sent us down the wrong side of the peninsular so we stayed here as its close to Yorketown where we have a luncheon engagement tomorrow.... We arrived just after noon and on the advice of the receptionist retired to the Pub for a roast lamb lunch. Tom Cruise was not there.... I took the gizmo out of the hot water system on the van and it was full of...

Across on the east side. Past wind-farms, small towns on the coast. Each town on these two peninsulas seems to have a jetty. Lots of holiday houses going up. No fresh water around..... Port Vincent was a good spot. Tide out to show lots of clean sand. Wade out further with a rake & collect sand crabs. Whiting & Bream fish too. Good swimming on the bay side. Calm enough to kayak. Super stone houses.
