4th June (2) Hit the coast road and turned north towards Streaky Bay……countryside has changed dramatically to very rocky paddocks with miles of drystone wall fences. Saw a sign in a rest area describing these fences, dating back to the 1850’s, the farmers used the millions of white stones for everything from fences to building foundations. The fences used no mortar and men obviously built them by hand doing about 40 metres a day…..being paid 10 shillings per 20 metres.
