Nov 25, 2018 - Mount Barker

Mount Barker 23 November A wet and windy morning, Ruth started on family tree research and then everyone was hooked. Paul produced a book of old photos collated by cousin Peter; fascinating. Out to the supermarket for a few things, lunch, dinner. The day seemed to fly by although we did manage to get some washing done and dried between showers. New to the household, a ‘ragdoll’ kitten, charging around and causing great amusement. 24 November Another lazy start to the day, more family research, then out to Hahndorf for a wander. Ruth bough a...

Feb 14, 2017 - Mount Barker and the Wilkins!

11 February Mount Barker Leisurely start to the day before Paul and Rosemary drove us off on a tour of the area. A lovely hot day we drove around enjoying the countryside, south to Strathalbin and then west and north. We landed at Hahndorf, a german founded town, where we had lunch. More beautiful countryside before ending up back at Mount Barker. A lovely afternoon, but too hot in the sun to jump in the pool, though Ruth did later. Tried to get our windscreen leak fixed but the 'National' company couldn't arrange it until Monday morning....

Feb 10, 2017 - Robe to Mount Barker

8 February We packed up and it was already getting pretty warm and the forecast was for 41 degrees today. We called in but no fresh fish, was due tomorrow! So back on the road. A little further on we turned off to see what sounded like an interesting place, Cape Jaffa. It was the site of a brand new yacht marina, nothing else there. They were watering the grass with large...

Adelaide is mostly surrounded by hills so The Hills covers a fair bit of land. First, we headed to Mount Lofty, the Mt Coot-tha of Adelaide. The weather was not super hot, thank goodness, but rainy. The normally great views from the summit were still pretty good but this was a stop during which Ben and I were reminded of the fact that not everyone...

Dec 2, 2009 - Day 134 – Penola – Mount Barker - High speed swimming pools

This morning the boys slept in until 8am. Those of you without kids do not appreciate the significance of that statement. While it was bliss to sleep in that late, this morning we had intended to get away early as we had our last long (over 300km) drive of the trip. Those of you who knew me during high school will realise it was not my finest moment. I think I discovered today a way to improve it. As we drove through Naracoorte, there was a sign for Narracoorte High School vineyard. Now that is what I call a high school!!!!. The practical...
