Our journey started at the home of James Chamber’s in North Adelaide, the main sponsor of John McDouall Stuartˋs 1861 expedition. The key in the first week has been the heat and lots of it. Several times our thermometer recorded over 40 degrees and has only just started to drop at the end of our first weeks riding. We have ridden in downtown Adelaide, up and over the mountains of the Flinders Range, through the kangaroo and emu inhabited landscapes further north around Hawker and Quorn and finally the ˋGorges ride from Hell. Aug 10, 2009 - Arkaroola Day 29

After exiting the Flinders, we continued our drive northwards to Leigh Creek, Codlee and other such metropolitan centres. Following a hot tip from Dad, we diverted 130km across a rough dirt track to Arkaroola, again world famous for its observatory and geological study centres. I took Sam, Bella and Elijah to the observatory for a tour in which the guide points out Astronomy features and then we all get to look at them through the $150,000 telescope gear.
