Hello again! Today was our exploring day on the island. We woke up to about twenty different birds. They were so annoying and loud and they made the weirdest noises. Some sounded like animals, or people, or burps, and they woke us up at about eight! We all showered, then got on the road. We stopped at the visitors center for Flinders Chase National Park. We ate lunch there and bought souvenirs. We learned that there was a fire in 2007 where 117 lightning bolts struck the island and started fires. The fires wiped out most of the park, but...

Dec 13, 2010 - Kangaroo Island

Hello again, Today was our first day on Kangaroo Island. We woke up early in Penneshaw and began our drive to Flinders Chase, where we would camp for the next two nights. We started our drive, and our first stop was at Seal Bay. Seal Bay lets people view a colony of seals that runs over 3 km and has about 1,000 Australian sea lions. There was a shortage of seals, and in the past, hunters almost hunted seals to extinction. Apr 26, 2006 - To Kangaroo Island

Security at the Adelaide airport is a bit different than Ottawa and say, Los Angeles. Of course there's the usual queuing, but when go through the security check, they don't want to see our boarding passes. As it turns out, those accompanying departing passengers can go right through and see them off. You won't be surprised to hear that our gate was at the FAR end of the airport - gate 50. No worries, it wasn't really that far. At 9:15 they make the boarding call for our Dash 8-300 to Kangaroo Island and off we go with our 9 other...
