Mar 11, 2012 - Busy

Wow! What a busy couple of weeks. Last weekend Maya and I took it easy, Friday evening was the Family BBQ at school....complete with face painting, cotton candy (fairy floss), a rock climbing wall, bouncy castle and of course BBQ. Saturday morning was a walk up Waterfall Gully, around Cleland and back down again (2.5hr). In the afternoon, Maya and I spent a lovely afternoon in the historic town of Hahndorf near here. German settlers came years ago and the flavour of the town remains the same. The buildings were beautiful and the town...

Feb 29, 2012 - Hikes, Critters, Culture and Yummy Food

It's been just over a month and I'm feeling like things are becoming normal here...I'm getting to know my way around and work isn't as overwhelming as it was. Went for an early morning walk in Morialta Falls park at 7:30 am on Saturday...it was 36 degrees when we started our walk...we had planned to walk for 2 hours up the hills to Norton Summit for breakfast....due to the heat (and fire risks) we altered the plan and stayed lower in the gorge. It was a beautiful walk and it was HOT!! So hot that the critters were all down low. We saw a...

Feb 20, 2012 - Random Thoughts

Another great weekend has come and gone. Explored Christie's Beach and then went to Victor Harbour...where we surfed (Maya) and body boarded (me)at Middleton Beach...lots of fun!! Gorgeous weather - 30-35 degrees! Went to the top of Mount Lofty (in our neighbourhood) what a view!!! On the drive to Victor Harbour we stopped for a field of 'little corellas'!! Views and random road signs. The kids are jumping off a dock in a man made salt water lake...these are really cool...down in victor they've piped ocean water into little lakes that they...

Feb 6, 2012 - Settling In

Well we've been here now for just over 2 weeks...I've conquered left hand driving, am beginning to know where things are in the grocery, have discovered some excellent beaches, walking trails and have met some great people. I've met my new class and they are a lovely group of 23 Year 2 students. The class is very multicultural with kids from many different countries and backgrounds. The school yard is beautiful, with lots of space, playgrounds, and equipment. We saw a koala on our walk back from drama class last week...it was very low in...

Jan 22, 2012 - Kangaroo Feeding

Wow what an exciting experience. We went to Cleland Wildlife Park, which is about 10 minutes from home, bought annual passes and got to feed kangaroos!!! and pet them and just hang out under the trees with them!!! We also saw a lot of birds, but the camera battery died...so oh shucks we'll have to go back! We also saw echidnas, wombats, a bunch of different snakes and birds (like black swans, pelicans, ducks), ghost bats, and these cute little critters that scamper in the bushes. We have to find out what they are. Because it was screaming...

Jan 21, 2012 - Koala Siting

Well I conquered left side driving today...made our way down to Rundle Mall in the city! All in all it was OK - turned the wipers on a few times...but other than that no big issues. I'm even starting to feel alright about the roundabouts! Luckily we have Tom in the car to tell us when to turn! More exciting though is our first koala siting. I noticed it in the tree and so Maya and I went across the street for a closer look. It was high up and sleeping so we couldn't see much. So, with determination, I decided to sit on the front porch, with...
