Jan 12, 2020 - Adelaide 2

Goodbye Australia Day 129 Beach and Craft Beers The morning is spent relaxing in the garden by the pool (it is Saturday after all) and the weather has improved again. After breakfast we pile into the car to head for the beach. Arya is coming along so we go in our hire car which has a little bit more room. We are heading once again to Fleurieu Peninsula, but not as far south as Port Willunga. The beach is Southport at Port Noarlunga on the Onkaparinga River. Once parked we are rewarded by fantastic views of the estuary, sand dunes and sea....

Jan 10, 2020 - Grange

Staying at the Beach Day 126 The Beach Mark and I spend the morning sitting by the pool arranging our shifts at Glastonbury via email, this also includes a health and safety test (some very strange questions concerning rubbish). Arya follows me every time I go into the house but then wants to be let back out when I return. I’m growing quite fond of this little French Bulldog. Today we are driving to the Gulf St Vincent to stay at the beach for two nights. We are staying in Grange by the Jetty and the historic Grange Hotel. It takes about 45...

Home from Home Day 124 Driving to Adelaide After a good night’s sleep, I wake to a beautiful day, the sky is blue and it is going to be hot. Mark is already up and has put the washing in the machine and gets breakfast and coffee sorted. After eating we shower and decide to take a walk around the bush trail whilst the washing dries on the line. Mark has told us he has seen kangaroos on the edge of the trees this morning, but as he is always telling tall tales Marcus and I are unsure whether we should believe him. Following the track, we come...

Oct 19, 2019 - Day 4 of The Ghan

Oh dear the last morning on the train......however not the best night of sleep due to the rough track in South Australia and the stopping and starting all night. However would not change anything as the trip has exceeded our expectations. So we do eventually get up and moving and make our way to the restaurant for Brunch at about 8.30am. We are sat at a table with a couple we have eaten with before so it was really lovely having the final meal with them. Now brunch......so many adorable decisions - but I end up having the gammon with bubble...

Australian Adventure

Apr 18, 2018 - Fair dinkum

I managed to get the rental car and its occupants back to Perth airport unscathed. Then we had a mere 5 hours to enjoy at the airport. We flew to Adelaide on JetStar, a budget spinoff of Qantas. It offers low fares offset by fees for everything but using the toilet. I had the aisle seat, across from Mo. The poor fellow to my left in the center of my row was over six foot and had to be well over 300 pounds. When he got settled, I had to list 30 degrees starboard to avoid sharing sweating arms. Just before takeoff, I noted an empty seat a...

Second Time Around

Apr 13, 2018 - Blown away in Adelaide

Arrived at Adelaide Beachfront CP, set up then went and had our flu jabs. Got back, put up our awning - 15 mins later, a sudden storm blew through, and completely wrecked the annexe next to us, and ripped our awning. Not usable until we get home..... Say no more.....

On The Road 2018

Apr 9, 2018 - fly to Adelaide

latitude = Memphis Melbourne is 500 miles from Adelaide. It would be possible to drive, but it would take all day and we found ourselves at the airport again instead. Airports can be stressful world over. The last few miles of our drive to the airport were horribly congested and it began to look like we would not make the plane. Luckily, it arrived late and luckily, when you travel in a group, there is a special group desk that checks you in avoiding the regular line. We put our cases in an long row and they were tagged and on the belt in...

Mar 14, 2018 - Mt Gambier to Meningie to Harndorf to Adelaide Shores Caravan Park

13th March. We set off to spend an exciting brain numbing morning at Centrelink ! Couldn't find a dentist so the next painful thing was trying to sort out our Super with Centrelink. Actually the guy there was very helpful, and we gave him all our printed docs and he confirmed the one they really need is at home in Victoria Point Queensland. So he sent Head Office a message saying to extend the 2 week deadline to 6 weeks to allow us to get home and submit. He also said there is a chance our application will be cancelled, and not to stress !...

Barnett's on tour

Jan 13, 2018 - Adelaide

It was a short, 50 minute flight from Melbourne to Adelaide - arriving at 11. There was a 30 minute time zone change which we don't experience often. We could not check into the hotel until late afternoon, so we spent the time visiting the Cleland Conservation and Wildlife Park. It took about 45 minutes to make the 60 km trip up the mountain. First we had lunch, then we toured the park. The various Kangaroos Troops are pastured in large fenced areas. They were friendly and would eat out your hand. There were three or four troop: the red...

S&H Australia

Dec 12, 2017 - Adelaide

Tuesday 12th December saw us arrive bright and early in Adelaide. It was going to be called Wellington but NZ got in first. They then opted for Williamstown after King William IV but he asked them to name it after his wife - which they duly did. The train put on some tours for guests that are transiting through to Sydney but we managed to wangle our way on to one of the tours before heading off to our hotel. It was a bit rushed due to the train being late in but we saw some of the sights included the Adelaide Oval and Cathedral. Once...

Dec 10, 2017 - Day 14 - Adelaide

Day of rest waiting for the mechanic on Monday. Easy wake up, some laundry and then we went at the Echidna winery in the McLaren Vale, for a good meal and a good glass of wine, or two. The day was looking like Perth: blue sky without a single cloud and low 30ies, with a mild breeze. So after lunch we moved under few trees nearby and we spent couple of hours lazily. Then we took the long way home, reaching the top of the hills and driving through the marvelous hills ridge road. Back home we got a takeaway, a good bottle of red and we close...
