Jul 4, 2018 - Upper North Coast

We called in to Coffs Harbour and the Big Banana on the way. They say this is the place that started the BIG craze. Its quite a complex now with laser tag, ice skating and water slides, oh and bananas of course! We spent a night in beautiful Byron Bay and thought wow if it is this crowded in winter we'd hate to see it in peak summer season. While we didn't spot anyone famous the staff everywhere are very friendly and helpful, with a nice relaxed vibe. After breakfast we visited the 1901 year old light house at Cape Byron, and every man and...

Oct 11, 2017 - Beach time

The next morning in Surfers paradise was basically a free morning. Unfortunately, checkout time was 11am and bus didn't leave til 1230. So we ate breakfast at the hotel, and headed off to shop and explore. My calves and feet were still feeling a bit funky and swollen so when the girls didn't need a guys opinion on clothes, I sat outside on a bench. Finished shopping and headed to the beach to relax. It started to drizzle so we went to find a quick sandwich place to grab to-go food for the road. Found a little shop and walked back to hotel...

Oct 10, 2017 - Surfers paradise

Chill little beach town. Checked into the hotel and headed straight for the pool. Everyone hung out for about an hour, then one by one started leaving to shower so we could go out. After showering we headed beachside where there were tons on shops and restaurants. The girls decided on a Mexican place and since it was Tuesday... that means taco- Tuesday! 50% off tacos! We ordered, but because we had such a large group, for some reason the food would take 45 minutes to make. So we talked and finally Linda taught us a number game. Each person...

Jul 5, 2017 - Surfers paradise... Our paradise

We arrived in Surfers Paradise on the final leg of our c1,800km train journey which began in Cairns. Surfers is about an hour from Brisbane and is the one of the main destinations on the Gold Coast. We stayed in an AirBnB very close to the beach in a rather posh area called Broadbeach. Whilst there isn't a great deal to do in this area, we both decided it is a very livable place which has a moderate climate, sparkling high-rises, beautiful sandy beaches and great bars and shopping malls. Not for everyone but definitely for us! In the...

Jun 27, 2016 - My Tips for Visiting Surfer’s Paradise

Surfer’s Paradise is a little bit of a misnomer. While there’s tons of surf related things to do, they only make up a small portion of what the area has to offer. I found Surfer’s Paradise to be very similar to a lot of bustling seaside vacation destinations around the world, like South Beach, Florida or Venice Beach, California. I didn’t connect with nature much while I was there, but that didn’t stop me from having a great time. Don’t Plan To Surf You can’t actually surf here. There’s surfing memorabilia and places to buy surfing...

Our Aussie adventure

Mar 18, 2014 - Gold Coast

Gold Coast This weekend I took a trip to the Gold Coast to visit some friends I met from my Byron bay and orientation group. My flight got me there at 7 am Friday morning so I could have a full day. My boarding pass for the flight was literally just a text message and I never once showed ID at the airport, which scares me a little. Once I got to Gold Coast airport I took a bus to my friends apartment which is right near Surfers Paradise. Day one we went to Movie world which is a theme park. We did all the roller coasters , the best one...

Feb 14, 2014 - Valentine's Day

Hello. Today was Valentine's day here. How nice of my husband to being me to Australia for this day. What a romantic guy. Keith took a surfing lesson today, and not to my surprise at all, he was a natural. He was one of only three who graduated to the "green" waves (one step up from white waves?). I knew he would do great! He came back after 2 hours grinning from ear to ear. Apparently today's waves were the best in the last two weeks (the instructors hurriedly wrapped up the lesson, so they could surf themselves before they taught again)....

Feb 13, 2014 - Free day

More of the same today. Took our time making it to the pool around 10 and stayed until noon. Came back to our room for leftovers for lunch. Keith spent some time on the beach, Simon and I were reading our books. Later we all went down to the beach to play some catch. More reading and Internet surfing (it's working!) and then we got ready for supper. A couple loads of laundry were done today too. Boring day by journaling standards, but a great day none the less. Feb 12, 2014 - Water Park day

Once again, our room Internet connection crapped out on us this afternoon, so here I am sitting in the lobby doing this update. I won't add pictures tonight, because it will take to long. We don't have many from the day anyway. We woke up at 5:30, on purpose, if you can believe it, to catch the sunrise from our balcony. The views from our apartment are truly stunning. After breakfast and leisurely getting ready, we drove to Wet'n'Wild Water Park. We had read both positive and negative reviews on trip advisor, so we didn't know what to...

Feb 11, 2014 - Beautiful day

Hello all, Today has been another good day. We did wake up earlier today and had a tremendous morning view. Tomorrow, I'm getting up even earlier, as I LOVE the daytime hours, and once night falls, I'm pretty much done. We went or an early morning walk, and it was the day of "artsy" shots. As artsy as you can get with our little canon camera. We had breakfast and lunch at "home", with a good long visit to the pool. Our tourist attraction of he day was to visit the Q1 SkyPoint observation deck. It was just a few blocks from our...

Feb 10, 2014 - First full day in surfer's

First off...the Internet is not being my friend. Access from our room has been cutting in and out and no one seems to know why. So now I am in the lobby (the only other place we have access) waiting impatiently for my photos to load. (I know, first world problems, but there it is). Our first full day in surfers paradise consisted of pool visits, hot tub soaks, Keith and Simon skipping rocks in the ocean for about an hour, me finishing my book, playing lots of go fish and uno on our deck, me getting groceries, having supper at the Hard Rock...

Feb 9, 2014 - Surfers Paradise

A bit to tell you about today, but I am just beat. So I will just let you know that we made it safely and easily to Surfers Paradise with a stop at a koala sanctuary in Brisbane along the way. I will add more to this day, tomorrow. Simon wants me to add, Simon's hashtag of the day: #simonhuggedkoala Pam Okay, now for the full day update. We left Noosa with some worry, mostly because it was raining. But as we got on our way everything seemed to fall into place and we arrived at the koala sanctuary by 10:30. This was a very nice laid back...
