Aug 17, 2011 - Seventeen Seventy
The Town of 1770 – 6 August to 13 August (7 nights) The 284km drive from Hervey Bay to 1770 started off with lovely scenery and good roads, until we turned off the Bruce Highway. Here the scenery changed to good old sugar cane fields, one after the other, and the road deteriorated significantly and became very probably the bumpiest, we’ve been on. 1770 (funny name for a town) is situated 528km North of Brisbane and has a population of about 65. 1770 is a village built on the site of the second landing by James Cook and the crew of HM Bark...

Jun 2, 2011 - Aus - Day 29 & 30 - Wild Dolphins!
Day 29 From Gympie, we decided to make our way to the town of Seventeen Seventy, going through Bundaberg. In the end, we didn't make it all the way on the first day, as we took it slowly, deciding to spend the night at a rest stop near Bundaberg. In Bundaberg, there is a Rum factory by the town's name. We were looking forward to taking their tour, however arriving there and finding out they were charging $25 per person for a quick tour of a Rum factory and 2 samplers at the end of the tour, we decided not to pay and made our way to the...

Dec 4, 2008 - 8 hour drive to the town of 1770
Today was our epic day of driving. I say 'our', more Em's and Matt's epic day of driving!! We are heading for a town called 1770 which we've heard good reviews of but it's about a 10 hour drive away, so another early start!!! After a lot of driving, cheese and pickle, and sour worms, we finally got to 1770 at about 5pm. I think we had driven through it by about 5.01pm. I say 'I think' as we couldn't find anything there!!!! We had a bit of a mooch around and it did seem like a pleasant little fishing village but that was it, so we headed...

Apr 30, 2007 - Agnes Water / Town of 1770
At last, proof that Australia isn't all sunshine. After leaving Airlie beach, I head on the overnight bus to Agnes Water and the bizarrely named Town of 1770. And the day I arrive it rains. Constantly. It's the first time since I left Sydney. I take a free tour of the town on the first morning, and we see the sights...except we can't see anything. Too grey and dreich. Yuk. I only stay a couple of nights, and its pretty uneventful. Agnes Water is a nice little place, lovely beach, but not much to do. I get even get turfed out of the local...

Feb 8, 2006 - Agnes Waters and Town of 1770
Agnes Waters and the Town of 1770 were next on the list of places to see, and we tackled them head on as we drove down the coast. 1770 is actually the name of the town and it is the only town in the world with a year for a name (no research has gone into this claim). One of the nice things about 1770 is that the entire town is practically a national park with outskirts along the coast licensed to build. So, being that 1770 is surrounded by a national park, there will be no further development in this area for some time to come. There really...

Hej igen....
