Mar 9, 2007 - Airlie Beach and the WhitSunday's
Well here I am in Airlie Beach - having heard the virtues of Airlie from Kate and Aaron who used to live here. I have to say that it is really pretty - probably a better choice than Cairnes. The entrance to Airlee is very dramatic - you drive through sugar cane fields and farm land and then drive over the brow of a hill to see the most beautiful bay. Airlee is a real holiday place - shute harbour road - where YHA is loacted, is the real party road - don't stay here to sleep!! Although, during the day things are pretty relaxed - a classic...

Mar 7, 2007 - Pics for you
Wow I've honestly been sitting at this internet cafe for 2 1/2 hours trying to download photos. It's already cost me $10 for absolutley nothing...so I cancelled it. I will have to try again later, but I can't sit here for any longer. Expecially since I was supposed to meet some girls at the lagoon about 2 hours ago. I promise I will try again later, when Kori gets home and can show me what I'm doing wrong. I will out them in the entry though, so I will email everyone when I've updated it. Also, I bought a cell phone yesterday, but it...

Feb 21, 2007 - The Barrier Reef and a farewell to Oz
All good things must come to an end and this old saying applies as much to our sojourn in Australia as anything else. We feel sad to be leaving this beautiful country and the wonderful people who have done so much to make our stay truly memorable. Our final excursion before leaving Oz for China was to be the Great Barrier Reef. We drove up to the Whitsunday Islands. These were named by, yes, you've guessed it, Capt Cook, when he sailed through on Whit Sunday June 1770. The further north we went the more tropical the landscape and, as this...

Jan 31, 2007 - Airlie beach
hi guys, after our extreme island adventure we have moved up the coast to Airlie beach, the jumping off point for the Whitsunday islands and some great barrier reef snorkeling. We have a few days in Airlie beach first before we head out to the Whitsundays and we did plan on spending at the beach but we have moved up into a tropical climate now and guess what, we are smack bang in the middle of the wet season! Its pouring down and the forecast does not look good for the next few days, hopefully it should become clearer by Saturday when we...

Jan 30, 2007 - Airlie Beach
The bus journey up here from Airlie was a good laugh. It was like 11 hours but we had fun. Its was Noels birthday as well. We played games on the bus and slept. I was bored so I woke everyone up and told them they have to keep me entertained.... What an arse.. :-). We met some quality people a few of which are still around now. We had a large night in Airlie for Noels Birthday. We agreed before we came away that on our birthdays we would each buy drinks for the other all night and buy a meal. Well it was my turn first. I spent $350 which is...

Dec 8, 2006 - Airlie Beach, QLD
AIRLIE BEACH & THE WHITSUNDAYS - Saturday 2nd December to Tuesday 5th (Days 36-39) Saturday 2nd December (Day 36) We arrived at 8.00am at Glorias Cafe at Airlie Beach marina, the designated meeting point for our 3 day \ 2 night sailing trip around the Whitsundays. By 8.45am with no sign of any tour representative the 13 assembled passengers were becoming restless. What we didn't know at that time was that the skipper for our trip had failed to show and wouldn't be! An emergency replacement was still in bed when contacted at 8.30am. Not a...

Sep 15, 2006 - Magnetic Island / Airlie Beach
Had a very chilled - hangover induced - day, wrote in my journal by the beach whilst waited for my bus to the ferry terminal and once i got on the ferry i was just like a little kid in a sweet shop because I was so excited at being on this awesome boat doing about 25 knots, wind in my hair, got soaked by some rude wave and then sat down at the other end to start my 3 hour wait for my next bus and wrote a pretty elaborate business plan for turning this new founded, well reserected, passion of boats into a reality...we'll see.. Bus broke down...

Jun 1, 2006 - Kroombit - Airlie Beach
We were up at 6am for breakfast at 6.30am. It was absolutely freezing out. Colin wasn't impressed as he'd got up desperate for the toilet and not knowing what the time was, he'd then run about 50m to the toilets in the freezing cold with just his shorts on. It was still dark out so he'd gone back to bed, very cold, thinking he had a least a couple of hours sleep left. 5 minutes later Nina's alarm went off as they had to get up! During breakfast (outside!) we all told Lawrence to get the engine going and warm the bus up. We then left the...

May 5, 2006 - Off too Airlie ...
After breakfast, we head out for a walk ... koala-spotting! I haven't yet seen a koala so I'm particularly excited. But, the little blighters don't half make it difficult: firstly, they are grey and blend in with the trees; secondly, they sleep most of the time; thirdly, they're shy of visitors. The word 'koala' means "animal that does not drink" [3] [4] [5] [6] and [7], plus the above-mentioned reference about this. The Koala actually does drink water, but only rarely, due to its diet consisting of eucalyptus leaves, which contain...

Nov 18, 2005 - Airlie Beach (Back on Land)
Back on Solid Ground The crew invited all the passengers out for a drink after the trip. We had some food and many jugs of beer yet again as the post-sea motion sickness was cancelled out by intoxication. I tried Kangeroo meat for the first time and can say it tastes similar to duck - mmmm.

Nov 2, 2005 - Whitsunday Surprise!!!
CRIKEY!!!!! This place is awesome! Australia is a really cool place, which we wish we had more time to explore! There is a lot of land to cover and a lot of places to see. Unfortunately, it is also the most expensive country we've been in, so a few weeks is about all we can do! The highlight of Australia was sailing through the Whitsunday islands into the Great Barrier Reef for some underwater exploring. We went on a huge tall ship called the Solway Lass. The food was great, the people were fantastic, the sights were AMAZING, the...
