Well we're now in Port Douglas after a couple of days in Townsville. From there we journeyed to Mossman Gorge and swam in the coldest water you could imagine. ... Sep 14, 2006 - Cairns to Mossman

Cairns - Mossman (101km) Much revived, we woke early so that we could get away at a reasonable time. ... On our last visit to Far North Queensland or FNQ as the locals like to say, we visited the Daintree, Cape Tribulation and surrounding areas but missed out on Mossman gorge. ... The town of Mossman is only another 20km from Port Douglas through sugar cane and fruit farms and Mossman gorge is another 5km west into the Daintree National Park. ... For the evening we checked into the salubrious Mossman Tourist Park for $22 where we met a cyclist on his way to Cooktown having pedalled from Adelaide which must be 5,000-6,000km away. ...

Port Douglas is about 1hr north of Cairns and is a beach town with easy access out to the great barrier reef. We took a trip to Mossman gorge. ... This is a jungle area where there is a nice walk through the forest (without mosquitos !)
