Jul 10, 2011 - Opals and Sharks
Our room was fairly aired out this morning. After breakfast, we left the island aboard the ferry. I didn't go outside this time because I was typing up Friday's entry. We waited a while at the luggage pick-up area. Nick, Marie, and I played with sticks whilst we waited. We fenced and flicked and cast spells that had no effect. We broke each others sticks, but no one broke my Elder Wand. We got our luggage and piled onto the bus. We drove into the middle of Brisbane and got off the bus. We walked down the street a couple blocks to an opal...

Apr 17, 2010 - April update
Well I have finally got back to the key board to update the blog. It is funny but when we are in one place for a while I kind of slip out of holiday mode and so keep forgetting to update. I guess too, because we are both working there is not much touristy stuff going on so I feel as though there is not so much to write about. I am sure I will make up for that with this posting though! So last time I wrote it was February – 2 months ago. My impression of February and March is pretty much rain, rain and more rain AND terrible humidity. The...

Apr 17, 2010 - Cruise on the Pumistone Passage
Laurie and Steve had given Ken a voucher for a cruise at Christmas time. We had been dying to go and use it but because the weather has been so bad we have not been able to. Finally, last Wednesday, we booked in and what a fabulous morning we had. The weather really decided to turn it on for us with a gorgeous sunny day with very little breeze – perfect for being on the water. We drove down to Caloundra (about a 10 minute drive south), enjoyed a nice coffee by the water then headed down to the jetty to find our boat. Upon arrival we found...

Jul 26, 2009 - Mooloolaba stay
Mooloombah is Alan’s home port and due to delays his leave pass had expired. I was surprised when he told me he had an extension to Gladstone. I was even more surprised when John told me his leave pass had been expired. His wife was missing him and he had to leave, or was it because he had washed the skippers white t shirts and returned with a load of blue shirts. Anyway it was a sad farewell as we drove John to the airport. Kawana Waters is like most suburbs, a Bi Low, Woolworths, Big W and a marina. Sorry folks, no pics. It was a torrid...

Jul 26, 2009 - Mooloolaba to Harvey Bay
Mooloolaba to Harvey Bay Leaving Mooloolaba was another step in my trip up north. I had hoped to sail around Fraser Island, The wind forecast was for light North easterley breezes. Not really what was needed for the island attempt. The only other way is through Wide Bay Bar and follow in the footsteps of Errol Flynn and his yacht the Sirocco. Lucky for us the fish I caught at the entrance didn’t entangle itself on the line and in the propellor as did my Errol’s fish. So another night sail, more hours of being cold and sleepless. The...

Jul 19, 2009 - Alan said "Mooloolaba or Bust"
EAST COAST GIRL MEETS THE COFFS HARBOUR “ASSASSIN” Walking back to the berth, I could hear some guy sounding off to someone else about the shared electricity plug system. When I approached he singled me out with a tirade of abuse. He told me I had no right to park my boat next to his berth. He believed I had removed his electricity plug. He also accused me of touching his boat. John came on deck (he is the one who fiddled with the plugs) the guy continued to abuse me. He said “he would get his brothers down to fixup us up”. The funny side...

Jul 17, 2008 - Lazy morning then an afternoon out with Anna!
It is mums last full day in Australia today so we had a quiet morning sorting out what she could take home of mine and packing! We had lunch outside in the garden as once again it was a beautiful day! Anna took a half day today and got home about 1.45pm. We sat in the garden for a bit then headed out for a drive to Montville which is a quaint village with lots of crafty shops in the mountains. We wandered around here for a while and then headed down to pick Den up from work. We then drove down the coast to Mooloolaba for dinner by the...

May 18, 2008 - Shipwrecked
Got up at 10am after waking up at 5am for an hour and again at 7.30am when me mum rang ha. Angie and Richard were already here (Brian & Cheryl’s house in Narangba, the suburbs of Brisbane), had some breakfast and we all headed out in the car to the Sunshine Coast... We went to Underwater World first off, pretty Picasso fish, a car made in to a fish tank, saw the seal show (clever the training of them), and a large shark tunnel there. The sharks seemed huge as it was, but then a sign said that due to the curvature of the glass tunnel they...
