Jan 9, 2013 - SkyDiving Over the Great Barrier Reef!!

I had had two restless night’s sleep maybe reason being today we were about to skydive over the Great Barrier Reef at Mission Beach from 14000ft. We had to be up and ready to leave for 7, we got in the mini bus with so many Chinese people; they obviously love an adrenaline sport. On our way I felt really nervous and this wasn't even the bus ride to the plane (the one that people say you sit nervously in). Bex was chatting away and said she was excited rather than Nervous. When we arrived at the Skydive base I was excited and nervous and...

Jul 6, 2012 - Rollingstone to Mission Beach

Rollingstone, not much there! Pretty much like staying at a caravan park out the back of Cowwarr, a small town, one shop. Except it is located on a gorgeous beach! Our caravan park was a few ks away from the shop and is right on the beach. It was a massive park with over 100 sites. Quite pretty but a bit windy on our first day there. Had a beautiful pool Dylan, Erica and Max (sort of) went swimming after sunning themselves first to warm up that little bit extra as the water was pretty chilly, hence why I didnt get in! Off to Mission Beach...

May 4, 2012 - Mission Beach

Aug 8, 2011 - Mission Beach!

Sunday 8th August Woke up this morning to beautiful Mission Beach – it was roasting! Blue skies – lovely surf! We had breakfast in our camper chairs just soaking up the rays and the views! We then headed along to one of the villages for a wonder around and then did some sunbathing on the beach – there were loads of tiny crabs living in little holes all over the beach. There were also some huge butterflies. Just before we left we watched skydivers coming in to land on the beach! We then set off on the road again after picking up some food...

Jun 24, 2011 - Aus - Day 52 - Mission Beach

Ocean waters around Mission Beach are too rough and many of the tours have been cancelled that go our for snorkeling or scuba diving so we decided to do a couple of the local hikes with Sam and Nicole. Did not see any wild life, no Cassowaries to be found. So many of the trees have fallen down with the rainforest canopy being destroyed by the cyclone. The forest was a lot more lush and full prior to the February storm, so sad to see. We drove down to Etty Bay Point where here is a local campground where 3 Cassowaries have called home. We...

Dec 21, 2010 - Mission Beach

Mission Beach – 2 December to 8 December (6 nights) The 232km drive from Wonga Beach to South Mission Beach was uneventful. From Cairns to South Mission Beach you travel a short distance inland through mostly cane and banana fields and amazing mountains. The Bruce Highway is pretty ordinary, with parts being really bumpy and strewn with potholes, which is not good for a major road. Mission Beach is situated 1595km NW of Brisbane and is Tropical North Queensland's closest mainland point to the Great Barrier Reef and with the beautiful Dunk...

Living the Dream

Nov 6, 2010 - Mission Beach

Just another stop on the backpacker trail up the coast. Very popular place for skydiving, as you get to land on the beach which all sounds very exciting but sadly not for us at this stage. Stayed in a decent backpackers called Scotty's beach house, big pool outside area, friendly people etc. The heat has definitely started getting far more intense up the coast. Literally its all you can do to just sit in the pool and try to stay cold, which at night in a dorm is particularly difficult. Not that I'm complaining of course. Relatively...

Aug 8, 2010 - We see them!

August 8th It would have been too difficult to plan, but as it happens Jeremy, from Daniel's class at school, is also staying at Mission Beach this week. So the kids rode their bikes there and we all spent the afternoon with them, in the pool and at the beach. In the evening we went out to dinner with grandma and grandpa at the 'Shrubbery Restaurant" in town at Mission Beach. Great setting, on the foreshore, great food and a great band to listen and dance to. August 9th Driving to our rainforest walk we stopped to see two juvenille...

Aug 6, 2010 - Grandma and Grandpa join us!

Aug 5th On the move. Excited about catching up with Grandma and Grandpa at South Mission Beach, Beachcomber park. Lovely drive through banana plantations, miles of canefields, patches of rainforest and mountain ranges in the background on both sides. Arrived late afternoon. Great spot, good facilities, not too touristy, beach just across access street, resort pool, overlooking Dunk Island which dominates the view. Mum and dad arrived after us and were also just as pleased with our destination. None of us had been here before and this was...

Jul 28, 2010 - Mission Beach

Wednesday, 28th July. Still at Mission Beach and although weather is still warm we have had rain and showers on and off now for about a week. We had intended to go to Dunk Island from here but with the unseasonal rain and low cloud Dunk Island which is just off the coast cannot even be seen and we did not want to waste the time or cost by going to the island and be miserable. We can do that on the mainland. We have spent the past few days with new friends Darryl and Megan who we first met at Kidman’s Camp in Bourke. Shopping and...
