May 14, 2013 - Chinchilla weir & Miles

12th May Mothers day was spent quietly, after a chat to Steve & Nome we head off into town. Blu has offered to take us in his hire car. Driving through town heading to the weir we noticed that not many shops are open. Living in the ACT we are use to every thing being open 7 days. Chinchilla Weir is a concrete faced earthfill structure and is the only storage for Chinchilla Weir Water Supply Scheme. The weir was officially opened in 1974. Sep 6, 2012 - Little Red, Birdsville races, Burk and Wills Tree

We really don't know why the Burkand Wills tree hasn't got some type of fence around it yet. Such history and we should be keeping it safe for ever. The races were just amazing so many there so much dust but hey thats Birdsville at race time love it or hate...

Sep 5, 2012 - On the road and camping in Boulia

If you ever get to Boulia there is a little stone house you really should go and see. Out the back there is a tin shed with old bones in it,they are from the ocean that once was there in the outback Australia many years ago nasty looking buggers :) Great camping spot behind the race track down on the creek, we were up high and it was very hot and windy. The 2 camels and the men were talking to Boulia bugger that haha.

Aug 6, 2012 - from Moranbah to Miles

Well the trip has been great the back roads are just amazing you see how the other half live.....some places it's so dry you wonder why and as one man told Des when he asked what was keeping him here "the banks" was his reply very sad. We had a great time in Springsure with Julie and Wayne the boys went fishing and we girls had a very relaxing time. As you see we did go for a walk :) Moura on the banks of the Dawson there would have been up to 50 campers and half as many dogs. Hot water $1 for a gas fired hot shower only Helen couldn't find...

Jun 25, 2012 - Miles

It rained the whole time we were in Miles but only enough to be annoying. It didn't stop us seeing the Miles Historical Village which is well worth the visit. They have recreated a street as it would have been a hundred years ago, all with authentic items in the buildings. I was particularly taken with the cafe (almost the old Argyle Cafe in Collinsville) while Barry's favourite was the hotel.

Sep 7, 2011 - On the road to Winton

Wow the countryside is really spectacular the plains and hills tell lots of stories. The pub in the bloody middle of nowhere Middleton Des had a pie. We stopped and had lunch and i gave the finches some water and they knew the water dish had been filled up for them straight down they came. The rocky hill with the track leading up to it i climbed up there and took some photo's beautiful scenery from way up high.

Aug 24, 2011 - Miles

Episode 2 of 9 – Yeppoon to Port Augusta Biloela to Miles Miles is 4450kms from Dunsborough. This was a 326kms leg and the roads, although bumpy in places, were pretty good. The countryside was a mixed bag of National Park forests and farming with crops of wheat, some cotton and plenty of cattle. Unlike WA and the Northern Territory, the farms here are all fenced, so you don’t get cattle wandering all over the place – take note Murkei!!!
