We had a fantastic time camping on the Gregory River. We asked the station manager of the Riversleigh station if it was ok to camp on his property. With the Go ahead we found this fantastic place. We stayed for two great nights. With no one around we had the whole river to ourselves. We checked out the Lorne National Park but did not think that much of it. Mad Darwin Trip

Aug 15, 2007 - Finally On The Road

OK, SO WE HIT THE ROAD ON TUESDAY MORNING. AFTER FINISHING UP A FEW THINGS WE ENDED UP LEAVING ABOUT MIDDAY. AFTER A BIT OF A SCARE WITH THE CARAVAN ROCKING AND ROLLING AT 100KMS WE ENDED UP MAKING OUR FIRST CAMP AT TORRENS CREEK ABOUT 80KM OUT OF HUGHENDEN. WE MET A NICE COUPLE THAT WERE MAKING THEIR JOURNEY FROM BRISBANE TO DARWIN AND IN CONVERSATION HE LENT US SOME ADVICE ABOUT THE SWAYBAR THAT WAS EXTREMELY HELPFULL AND STOPPED ANY MOVEMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY OF TRAVEL. J.C.'S BIG ADVENTURE

Jun 2, 2005 - Julia Creek (12/05/05 - 15/05/05)

An outback town in the middle of outback Queensland. And looking around, yuo really know it. A friend wanted to come here to watch some sort of Rodeo event but it actually consisted of Stockmen chasing cows around a series of gates in a dust bowl arena. I was a little bemused. What I did see a lot of were said Stockmen (Cowboys) dressed identically in bright blue wrangler jeans, checked plaid shirts, big old hats and spurs. Yes, spurs. Even the ones who weren't riding. Even some of their kids were dressed in this manner. Scared? Damn right...
