Sep 30, 2020 - at Carnarvon Gorge

Wed 30th Sept - at Carnarvon Gorge 8:45 Ron Jan Terry and David set off in two cars to do some walks - Elaine and Dell opted out. First up, Moss Gorge; a very pretty cool spot with a tiny waterfall, but the attraction is the water continually leaking out of the sandstone and down the face of the rock growing ferns and moss all over. Definitely a favourite of Jan. Back to the main track and further into the gorge we came to the Amphitheatre turn off. It’s about 400m in and a lot of stairs but well worth it. The entrance is at the top of a 4...

Sep 29, 2020 - at Carnarvon Gorge

Tue 29th Sept - at Carnarvon Gorge It's a help to know that when we 'go walking' we take the cars about 4km from Takarakka (outside the NP Boundary to the NP Info centre and start our walks from there. The only two exceptions are Mickey's Ck and Rock Pool which are accessed about 1km before the Info centre Slept in and nearly let the team down this morning - gobbled down breakfast to be ready to leave at 8:30. Left a few minutes late driving to the NPWS Info centre to collect maps and then came back to the rock pool (300m off road. drive to...

Sep 28, 2020 - Biloela to Carnarvon Gorge

Mon 28th Sept - Biloela to Carnarvon Gorge Carnarvon does not show in the Map Manager so the nearest town is INJUNE about 30km E of Carnarvon So we didn’t have too early a night cos Ron decided to get as up to date as possible with the TripJournal before going to Carnarvon with no cell coverage. Ron re-fueled the Prado, while Jan started the shopping. Then when we got back put groceries away while Ron topped off the water and hitched up ready for the road. Off to the museum for a quick look around; well that was a mistake, it’s a huge...

Jun 27, 2018 - Injune - Rodeo Grounds

Stop in town for lunch at their only café but when we started to leave it not only started to rain but Bob has discovered his battery is flat on the truck??? So we are off to repark the caravan and unhitch, then we go over and jump start his truck - with that achieved we go back to the caravan and re-hitch and head off to the Rodeo Grounds for the night. As it is still raining we all head indoors for the rest of the day. Trevor and I are soaked to bones so with the gas stove alight to warm us up and our wet cloths off we finally settle in...

Sep 29, 2015 - at Carnarvon

TUESDAY 29th Sept John and Bronwyn did the 14km guided tour to Art Gallery and all sights from there back starting at 8:00am. Off early at 8:45 to Amphitheatre and Moss Garden. Significant changes since our last visit 20 years ago when we came here after Steve and Kylie's wedding in St George. The path has been rerouted away from the creek so that instead of working our way up the creek using both sides with 9 crossings to the Amphitheatre there are now only 3. It takes a little of the charm away from the original walk but I'm sure it's a...

Sep 28, 2015 - at Carnarvon Gorge

MONDAY. 28th Sept Day one of our 2 day stay in Carnarvon had a slow start as we didn't get off to start our walk until after the morning cuppa. Mind you we were only planning on doing the short walks outside the gorge today. So we packed lunch and some morning tea and headed off. Mickey Creek Gorge was first and that was a nice surprise. As we got close to the end (which we didn't make) the gorge became very narrow and beautifully cool. To get to the end we would have had to wade through water which didn't seem worth it so we passed it up...

Sep 27, 2015 - Carnarvon Gorge Nat Pk

SUNDAY 27th Sept We left Nevill Hewitt Weir about 9:30 and drove the couple of blocks that represent Baralaba to ascertain there was no where open for fuel (let alone anything else). On to Banana, still nothing open so continue west to Moura for morning tea and find nothing open there either. So we head further west until we get to Rolleston, our turning point to head south. On the way we share the road with a mob of gaunt drought stricken cattle which are grazing the "long paddock" to try to obtain some feed. So sad to see. Finally in...

Sep 21, 2015 - Day 86 / Injune

We are staring to make bigger steps toward home now. Today was 313kms to Injune, backtracking, the way we came up, over the Dawson Hwy through Springsure and Rollestone and then onto new ground on the Carnarvon Hwy to Injune. On this stretch, not far from the Carnarvon Gorge turn off, while I was driving, I had an altercation with a kangaroo! The dry grass at the side of the road was about 3 foot high and right to the side of the tar and without any warning the kangaroo suddenly hit the front RHS of the car. I didn't even see it until it...
