Sep 19, 2008 - Maroochydore to Gold Coast

Very next day, we had a short drive to Gold Coast, wow this is very lively town with full of young kids, nice beaches, heaps shops, restaurants etc. We saw a quite few people here in Gold Coast, Lexi's sisters family, Grace, Zoe and Craig, they were up here for friend's wedding and we babysat Grace while they were at wedding. Lexi's anti Jo, and lovely cousins, Josh and Lachlan. I also met up with Dan, who I used to work with in Port Douglas, and had a great night out with him in Gold Coast! We stayed in Gold Coast for the week end, and...

Aug 16, 2008 - Day 54 - Toowoomba to Gold Coast

Vital Statisitcs Distance: approx 200K – we got lost Diesel Price Gold Coast : $1.629 Fuel Economy: 9.9 ltr / 100 It was very cold the night we stayed in Toowoomba. We slept in as we were tired and enjoyed the warmth of inside the van rather than braving the elements. We ate breakfast, packed up and checked out of the caravan park at about 11am – 1 hour after the 10am required checkout. Our plan that day was to travel the short 200 kilometres to the Gold Coast where we would meet up with Peter’s Mum and dad. The Newings Senior had already...

Apr 22, 2008 - 48 hours flying for my best mates wedding

When I found out my best friend of at least 24 years was getting married back in Australia, I knew it was going to be difficult to juggle work and annual leave so that I could be there for him on the big day but there was really no alternative. As it turned out things were pretty tight, which I meant I would be flying to the other side of the world for just a few days (3 nights in fact) and then flying back to London. As the wedding was going to be on North Stradbroke island in Queensland it is also meant that I wasn't going to get to see...

Mar 28, 2008 - Gold Coast / Dreamworld

Gekauft...

Mar 17, 2008 - The Gold Coast

Hello all... We're now making our way down the east coast of Oz... This stop, the Gold Coast... More specifically, Surfers Paridise... You can see how Lisa and I fit in perfectly here!! This is the "lie on the beach" part of our holiday so we've really been looking forward to it... One small problem it's St. Paddy's Day!!! The ocean here is great (good fun in the surf) and the beach is really soft sand! Anyway, "Hang Loose" and we'll catch you from Sydney... L&C

Feb 21, 2008 - Dec 23 2007

Well, I must say it has been a while – I have been a little bit distracted and a little bit busy so I am going to try and account for the last couple of months in one fell swoop, maybe with a little help from my mothers updates to fill in some gaps. With some not unexpected troubles in the week leading up to heading home for Christmas, the couple of weeks in Australia were well worth the running and leaping and long flights to get there. Some quiet time with Kel and the cats, some fabulous quality time with friends and family and then the...

Dec 9, 2007 - Main Beach - Gold Coast

We are spending the first week here in Surfer's with Brian and Felicity at a wonderful holiday appartment of a friend. It has beautiful views and a great beach. We've been touring around the area, and enjoying their company. They took us to our digs for next week, it will be a whole new experience down there for us. They have been a great help in finding our signature drink..VB for Mike and bitters for me.

Apr 27, 2007 - Coolangatta - Day 1

We had talked to the owner of the Sunset Strip (our current accommodation) the previous night and had said there were some good surf spots within walking distance. I got up early to watch the sunrise over the ocean while Cynthia decided to catch up on sleep (apparently the 3 naps in the car the day before wasn't enough). Unfortunately, it was cloudy and didn't allow for any good sunrise pics. However, there were alot of surfers in the water and I was happy to just sit and watch. There were 3 main breaks near the hostel. The safest and...

Apr 26, 2007 - Coolangatta - Getting There

For our last couple of hours in the park, we got up early (around 5:30) to try and see a platypus. To see the platypus, you're suppose to be real quiet and still because they are shy and scare easy. Unfortunately, not long after we were got to the pool, people would walk down to the water, wait a couple of minutes and then leave. I think this was keeping the platypus at bay, but I'm pretty sure that I saw/heard a splash behind some bushes that was caused by a platypus. Cynthia was satisfied that at least we heard a platypus and so we...

Mar 14, 2007 - Koala Cuddling and Rainforest Trekking

11th March - Seeing as I hadn't been working since Thursday, I figured I needed to get out of the hostel and see what was left around Brisbane that I hadn't already seen. After talking to some people I decided to visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, so I caught the bus from town and looked forward to what will probably be the last encounter I have with the native animals of Australia. The best thing about the sanctuary is the possibility to cuddle a koala! Which I did, the one I held was called Serenity (I think, although it may have been...
