Nous sommes partis du paradis du Cap Tribulation pour nous diriger dans les terres plus hautes du Tableland. Pas tres loin de Cairns, mais assez agreable route en lacets et en vallons verdoyants. Dans cette region, on voit des plantations de the, un peu de cafe, de la canne a sucre et beaucoup de vaches. Ce fut tres agreable de retrouver un climat un peu plus frais dans les montagnes. Une bonne nuit de camping, et nous sommes partis decouvrir les chutes et les etangs de baignade. Partout, on voit des panneaux routiers nous prevenant qu'on...

Cooktown - Tinaroo Lake (324km) The fierce winds continued during the night but thankfully no gum tree branches fell on us as a result. We are lucky not to be scuba diving as the sea looked ferocious when we went to the wharf this morning. This morning's museum, sited in the Old Bank building, was largely a chronological pictorial history with narratives from the Aboriginal period to modern times. Whereas the James Cook Museum concentrated the very early days of Cooktown, this museum had mostly sketches or photo's of the various periods...

Van rolling to Oz

Jun 16, 2006 - Chilligoe and beyond - off to the outback

kms 9000 Day 79 Chilligoe holds Jo's appeal due to its caves and renowned gem mining. They also boast of a observatory which Stu has always wished to visit. After some 3 hours from Mareeba, we hit Chilligoe. Its dry and dusty, but the warmth and blue skies are a welcome relief from the coast (for another 2 weeks every forecast we hear of Cairns and Cooktown is windy and rainy, so going inland turned out to be the right move). We spend a night at Chillagoe & visit the Royal Arch limestone Cave. It's interesting although the guide is very wet...

Brown's Oz Trek

May 24, 2005 - Atherton Tablelands (photos added)

Finally picked up our house on wheels and headed up to the Atherton tablelands! The van is very posh (as posh as vans go) with a toilet, shower and even heating and air con! Its quite easy to drive according to Richard, although I have only driven it forwards in daylight so far as i disagree! Really nice drive, very steep and bendy (travel sickness sufferers beware). Stopped at Lake Barrine for tea and scones and then camped out at Lake Eacham for the night. It was a very exciting night, filled with a sighting of a kookaburra and a game of...

Richard's Round the World Trip 2005 + Jules' Mini Adventure!

Sep 1, 2004 - Atherton Tablelands. Waterfalls.

We left the Sanctuary for the excellent drive to the Atherton Tablelands. This is a highland area of tropical rainforest. After stopping on the way for breakfast at Innisfail our first stop was at Crawfords lookout across the tablelands. From here we went to ..... waterfall, this had a couple of separate drops, whilst here we met a very strange couple who we eventually went on to meet at every other stop throughout the day. Next we went on to the main waterfall circuit. The first of these was.....falls...... Next was....... falls. Finally...
