Jan 18, 2013 - Bundaberg - WE LOVE RUM!
We arrived in Bundaberg slightly burry eyed as a 13 hour journey on a Greyhound bus is just not cool! However I managed to sleep fairly well but Bex said she only got an hour here and there. Bex was so excited as I had looked up the motel the day before and it said there was a 82 inch TV in the room. We were going to watch so many films but then when we arrived I may have got the measurements slightly wrong and it was centimetres, you should of seen the look on Bex’s face. Bundaberg only really has one thing going for it which is the Rum...

Dec 10, 2012 - On the way to Bundy
Packed up while the boys played with John, the French boy. Just after peak morning traffic we hit the road out of Brisbane where the traffic was still fairly thick on the motorway. However, as we passed the Nambour exit the traffic just fell away and for awhile into Gympie there was hardly a vehicle on the road. We fueled up at Gympie before stopping at the Driver Reviver North of the town for lunch. The drive into Bundy was fairly uneventful, the town of Childers was really bustling (plenty of people at the cafes). Arrived at the caravan...

Sep 15, 2012 - Yeppoon to Bundaberg
Roadworks, roadworks roadworks! Due to the immense number of roadworks today our speed limit kept going from 100 to 80 to 60 to 40, then back up to 60 to 80 to 100!! Our sightseeing until reaching Bundaberg consisted mostly of Australian bush scrub, bumpy roads, flashing ambers lights on roadwork vehicles, witches hats, roadwork warning signs, pilot vehicles, lollipop operators scared of being run over and the occassional roadkill. Also the charming roadworks increased our drive by 2hours!! Next time we visit QLD, I think I may have to...

Nov 22, 2011 - Animal Madness- Hervey Bay and Australia Zoo
Blog 17: Animal Madness Hervey Bay- whale watching We drove a little further from Bundaberg to Hervey Bay, the place which many people visit to do some 'whale watching'. After another free night's camping (this time with no showers), we parked outside the tourist information centre to find the best deal on one of these boat trips. I fell in love with this little dog outside of the centre and let her jump all over me- which resulted in painfully scratched and bleeding legs! Her name was "little lady"' to which the owner said, "what else...

Nov 22, 2011 - Cruising down the East Coast of Oz
Blog 16: Cruising down the East Side We are in Oz for a whole month which means we have plenty of time to drive down to Sydney from Cairns. Of course, as in New Zealand, DJ is the designated driver while i get to admire the scenery and control the music! With Liam and Abbie in tow, the boys are sharing the driving and as this campervan has a lot more space, we take it in turns to chill out in the back. This normally results in being thrown about and being attacked by the cans of beans and packets of noodles, and occasionally all the fridge...

Oct 13, 2011 - When It Pours ...
Today was reserved for sightseeing around Tweed Heads. We drove down to the local Tourist Info office to see what they thot were must do’s. The guy we got had a couple of suggestions, but really was into touristy things for small families. We walked around Point Danger (near the Tourist Info office) and saw the monument to Captain Cook. From there we meandered back down the coast as close as possible to Byron Bay for a picnic lunch, stopping at a couple of places along the way. We got rained out just after finishing our lunch & decided to...

Apr 11, 2011 - Bundaberg
9th April. Last night we decided to go to the Maryborough RSL Club for dinner, not the best we’ve been to, the food was average, but at $17 for the two of us, who would complain. Wayne won a nice meat pack (rump steak and sausages) I played the pokies but with no luck. This morning we made our way to Bundaberg, along the way we called at Childers, a nice old country town, with great caravan parking, I think you could stay overnight if you had your own facilities. We parked and walked up town, and as we were crossing the road, an old lady...

Nov 29, 2010 - Bundaberg
29th November Bundaberg First stop, naturally, was the tourist information. Met an old man who kept saying 'How good is that?!?'. Took his advice and headed for the Bundy factory where we didn't pay to go in but spent a while in the gift shop and saw the huge bundy bottle. We then continues our trail to the huge Bundy keg which was an outlet shop selling all their soft drinks. We got Sarahs chrosmas present in the shape of a crate of lemon, lime and bitters. Looked round a few shops, including a glass blower who made quills, then headed to...

Oct 3, 2010 - Australian Zoo
Travels with Glenda 5-9: Australia Zoo Beerwah is a small town of about 500. Our reservation was at a Caravan Park (RV Park) that also had cabins. It was clean and inexpensive and only about 8 Km from the Australia Zoo which was our reason for being there. Australia Zoo was made famous in the US by Steve Irwin the “Crocodile Hunter”. The zoo was started by Bob Irwin, Steve’s dad, as a 4 acre reptile zoo, dealing primarily with crocodiles. It now covers 70 acres and is devoted to primarily Australian animals. We got there just after they...

Oct 1, 2010 - Cairns to Beerwah
Travels with Glenda 5-8 Friday, September 18 we are on the road again, traveling south out of Cairns. We encountered numerous construction/road work delays. The speed limits are usually 100 km/ph, or about 60 mph. We were lucky to average 60 km/ph. We are doing picnic lunches on the road and found a nice little park in Cardwell, overlooking the ocean. Our original plan was to stop in Townsville. When we got there we found it very touristy beach town. Not our cup of tea. So we continued south to the town of Ayr. It is a small sugar cane...

Aug 6, 2010 - BUNDABERG
Friday, 6th August. From Airlie we continued south, skirting Mackay and through Sarina. Then on to Marlborough about 250kms which was a good road although a little boring. About 45 years ago I travelled over the same section of road when it was 250kms of single lane bitumen and was a real horror although it did not have the same amount of traffic in those days. It was then known as the ‘crystal highway’ for obvious reasons. Eventually we reached Marlborough and continued towards Rockhampton. Not wanting to end up in a crowded caravan...
