Yeppoon to Port Augusta I had intended combining all our stops in the first stage of our “homeward bound” leg from Yeppoon to Port Augusta, but have discovered that the software I’m using for our Journal can’t handle the mapping side of things if I do that. You have to create an individual “entry” for each stop, else it won’t appear on the map. So please bear with me as I will create a new (very short) entry for each stop on the way on a two-daily basis for the next couple of weeks. Episode 1 of 9 – Yeppoon to Port Augusta Yeppoon to...

Jun 30, 2010 - Biloela
The weather in the gorge seems to be very unpredictable and last night we had a shower of rain just enough to make the canvas on the camper wet. This along with the shadow of the tall trees in the camp ground made packing up slow! Ended up departing at 11.00 am, travelled on flat straight roads heading north to Rolleston where we had lunch and fuelled up with only a small amount left in the tank. After a further 2.5 hours of heading east we arrived in Biloela (via Banana) where we are having an overnight stop in a cabin. We were curious as...

Jun 10, 2010 - Biloela & Emerald
Left Hervey Bay around 9:25am and proceeded to latch onto a caravan in the distance. We traveled behind this caravan in convoy thinking great everything going smoothly, thinking Trevor, Carol & Gracie were upfront. We followed this caravan from just outside of Hervey Bay to near Howard (20 minutes) where upon we discovered to our surprise the car and caravan where not the Watson’s. We thought to ourselves out loud, O gee we are all lost, we are all lost. Anyhow upon once traveling North on the Bruce Highway we soon made contact with the...

Jun 9, 2010 - Interesting Biloela
No Sheila at Biloela…. Couldn’t find her… We therefore assume the song is not based on factual events. Couldn’t get Tourist Info as the visitor’s centre was closed, as it is Wednesday…. Navman gave us the wrong address for the Caravan Park so we had to make enquiries and were told the park we need is a Kilometre out of town…. We were lucky our travelling companions were travelling in convoy with us but they were in the wrong convoy and could have ended up anywhere, the 2 way UHF radios are great and have a range of around 200 metres…. Nice...

Jun 14, 2009 - Winter is definately here!!!
G'Day Well winter is definately here. It is bloody freezing at night. I woke up the other morning at 8 and went to the bathroom only to find that the toilet bowl was iced over and there was an icecle hanging from the shower head. It was minus 2. Now I know what you are all saying....That is nothing compaired to what we get at home and I know. It is more the fact that on that same day the temp rose to 25 in the middle of the day and then down to 0 overnight again. It is the severe fluctuation that is the problem. Shorts and flip flops by...

Apr 14, 2009 - Biloela
BILOELA: April 14th-Set off from Emerald in drizzle which turned into steady rain for about an hour until we drove out of it. Down the Gregory Dawson Highway we passed through the small towns of Springsure, Rolleston, Bauhinia, Moura and Banana travelling a total of 374 kms to reach Biloela. Although the scenery as we travelled was not spectacular it was always changing so never boring. The highlight was the dramatic volcanic landscape of flat top hills with sheer sides between Springsure and Bauhinia. Biloela is a medium size town with...

Dec 16, 2008 - Carnarvon National park to Kroombit Park, QLD - Imagine Texas chainsaw massacre...
We made a leisurely departure from Carnarvon heading for Kroombit Park on Lochenbar Station, a working farm that allowed tourits to try out a bit of the old cowboy lifestyle. On route we made a slightly illegal detour to a coal processing facility for a look at the massive scale of the stuff and stopped for a photo next to some very large mining equipment. After lunch in the town of Biloela we went for a game of lawn bowls (don't ask) where me and Adam were soundly thrashed by the sneaky Saffers. After this we headed to Kroombit where we...

Mar 14, 2008 - Kroombit Cattle Station
I caught the bus at 7.am for an epic drive to Kroombit Cattle station. This time the driver was Joel and sounded a bit like Toady from neighbours. our first stop was for us to play some bare foot lawn bowls - the deadliest sport in the world - as everyone is over 75. Just joking, it's trickier than you think. Another stop on the way was Rockhampton the beef capital of Australia, like something of an American town. We arrived at the cattle station around 5.pm and after a tiny bit of volleyball we went up 'Sunset Hill' to catch the sunset of...

Jul 29, 2006 - Hervey Bay to Kroombit Cattle Station
I was back on the bus today, headed towards Kroombit Cattle station near the small town of Biloela. Bileola means "white cockatoo" in one of the Aborigine languages. This is the first part of my trip up the east coast that we actually went inland and it was a nice change. Some people say that the outback isn't exciting but I like it a lot better than beaches. We arrived at the cattle station and after everyone was checked in we found some goats and had a goat rodeo. It sounds stupid but was rather entertaining. I roped a goat and proved...
