Feb 25, 2014 - Agnes Water / 1770

Today's journey to Agnes Water was about 120km along a rather rough, bumpy, although tarred road. We had booked in to the Beach CP because it is right on the surf beach at which Richard wanted to surf. It is one of the few spots this far north where you actually get a surf. It is something to do with the direction of the current between Fraser Is. in the south and the Barrier Reef in the north. We discovered, however, that we could not stay at that CP over the weekend because they are fully booked due to a long board surf carnival and a...

Apr 23, 2013 - Agnes Water, 1770

April 23 - 24 A 5 hour drive landed us in Agnes Water, about half way between Bundaberg and Gladstone. The town up the road is '1770' named because Captain Cook landed there on the 24th May 1770. Just a month or more after he landed at Kurnell. Very pretty sleepy fishing village. This was Davo's last chance for a surf but he was out of luck with no swell. We did a bit of fishing on the river and the beach. Caught some whiting. Only stayed 2 nights because all the van parks were booked out because of the Anzac long weekend. The weather has...

Apr 3, 2011 - Biker mama

I finally left Brisbane behind and was making my way to Agnes Water where I was supposed to only stay for two nights. The count of nights spent somehow managed to end up at five. Low and behold there was flooding further north, due to rain, and the buses were only running to a certain point. For things to go according to my plans, I would need to get further than what the buses were going. In a semi-panicked state I bumped back my sailing trip, my reason for heading north, which meant I also changed my bus departure time and day. Murphy’s...

Jun 11, 2010 - Town of 1770/Scooteroo!!!

In Agnes Water/Town of 1770 there is not very much to do, the town and roads are quiet-until at about 2:00 everyday when up to 70 tourists hop onto mini choppers and drive around the hills in a very long convoy. I went all out for this-getting decked out in some of the temporary tattoos provided and proudly wearing the scooteroo leather jackets and I had a fantastic time!

Mar 28, 2010 - Rain (almost) stops play !

Well after surviving Cyclone Ului, I left Undara NP and headed south towards Charters Towers. Unfortunately, my car was feeling ill again so I decided to divert at the last minute to Townsville, so I would stand a better chance of getting it repaired. About two hours after arriving in Townsville, it started raining and it basically continued to do so for the next 36 hours, coming down particularly heavily for all of Monday afternoon. Fortunately, this gave me the chance to get my car repaired and serviced, catch up on my mails / blog, hang...

Sep 24, 2008 - Australia - Airlie Beach, Capricorn Caves to Town of 1770

We left Airlie Beach early for a long day on the road south, a journey spent playing air guitar, watching the agricultural trains, fields of crops, rolling hills and small towns pass by, and counting road kill! We reached the Capricorn Caves, about 2km north of Rockhampton, late afternoon and decided to stop over for the night. Our tour of the Caves - a series of above-ground limestone caves and passages - the following morning was a perfect way to start the day. Towards the end of the tour we entered the Cathedral - a natural formation...

Jun 24, 2008 - KL to Gold Coast

Yay home at last!!! The sun is shining and the sky is so clear and blue. Walked on the beach today and it was so perfect, clear blue ocean, white sand, no rubbish anywhere and hardly another person to be seen. What a contrast to the whole of Asia! We had a short flight from Penang to KL then a 6 hour wait for our flight to the Gold Coast. Coming into Queensland was majic as we were descening over Brisbane and were low enough to make out lots of land marks. It took only about 6 minutes to do the 90km to the Gold Coast and we flew along the...

Sep 9, 2007 - Whitsundays

Today's the day - I've been away for 6 months!! I'm at Airlie Beach with Carl just now, where the weather's been lovely so we've been soaking up some sun (yes - even my amazingly untannable skin)! Ironically there isn't much of a beach here, but there's a man-made lagoon where everyone sunbathes and swims instead. We rented a moke for 2 days to do some exploring - a moke is a small jeep about the size of a dodgem car!! It was hillarious! We went to Cedar Creek Falls where Carl wanted to jump off this big 30ft ledge (because eveeeryone was...

Aug 9, 2007 - Moved on again, Cool Bananas - Agnes Water

Well Ive left Hervey Bay and the Next backpackers. I was quiet sad about leaving, not because I particuarlly liked Hervey Bay but the back packers felt really homely and I just need the creature comforts for a bit. The coach journey was long and tyring. As we went along the country side was starting to change. The ground is no longer a fresh green, its becoming dusty, which was quiet ironic as I saw my first rain for about 3 weeks. As we left Bundaberg the clouds started to clear a little to reveal a beautiful sunset. I just couldn't decide...

Oct 6, 2006 - Town of 1770

Mulambin Beach (Yeppoon) - Town of 1770 (305km) I woke rubbing the mounds of flesh on my legs and arms. The sandflies certainly made a meal of our limbs last night even though we had jeans and long sleeve shirts on. Strangely, Ruth is not so badly bitten this morning. Strange, because it is usually Ruthie who inadvertently protects me from insert bites. After breakfast of bacon sangers and scratching our legs and arms raw, we continued on our loop back to Rockhampton via the coastal beaches. We found the lovely, partially developed Emu...

Oct 2, 2006 - Fraser Island

Set out for 3 days of cruising around this huge sand dune island in a 4X4, with a group of 11, and it was just so beautiful. But, wish i'd been with a better group - as i'd have had more fun with others but that's just the luck of the draw. 2 sweedish girls and i had a great laugh dancing around on the beach acting like drunken fools but apart from them, and 2 german girls, the others - mostely couples - were pretty lame and went to bed so early! Did fire poi on the beach and didn't burn myself!!! Drove the monster and yup got stuck in the...
