Michelle off on some tracks from the campsite at sunrise, past billabongs with geese and rocky outcrops. Travelled 10km further into Ubirr for the guided ranger talks at 3 of the rock art sites, starting at 9. Learnt of the detail of the paintings and the Indigenous stories behind them. Then we all did the 'Manngarre' monsoon forest walk. In the afternoon we watched high tide come in at Cahill's crossing. The incoming tide travels 80km from the coast and hits the freshwater, bringing an abundance of food as it crosses. Not the 'croc vs....

Jul 25, 2006 - Darwin #2

After Litchfield we attended an event back in Darwin called the Beer Can Regatta; it's an annual thing in which crowds of Australians get drunk and build boats out of empty beer cans, as well as compete in various events such as kayak races, etc. We only stayed for about 30 minutes—enough to eat a lunch of peanut butter and jam on corn cake sandwiches and tim tams, and to buy delicious tropical fruit smoothies.
