May 9, 2006 - NT: Rock art in Kakadu

Very pleased to discover that one of the most significant rock art spots in Kakadu is open to the public, so we're up and off to Nourlangie Rock to check it out. The walk through these art sites starts at a large rocky overhang that has been used for an eternity by the Aboriginal people of the area as a shelter during the wet. You can see why, it would be a nice, safe, dry place to hang out during the fairly dramatic wet weather they get up this way. The art on the walls signifies important lessons that elders taught the kids about hunting...

Feb 1, 2006 - Kakadu National Park

The land of down under, Australia! We had almost two months here and it was like trying to see the United States in the same time period. We arrived into Darwin on a redeye flight. Darwin is located in the Northern Territory. We had a few days here to see Kakadu National Park "Kakadu". The park is situated three hours inland from Darwin and is accessible via a four-wheel drive vehicle at this time of year (so they say). There are two seasons here; wet and dry.
