Apr 16, 2013 - Kings Canyon
Day 20 of our boot camp – Tuesday 16 April 2013 Kings Canyon Today we got up according to our clock at 6:00am ready so we didn’t miss the sunrise and the rim walk that is 6km not doing any side tracks, which what we always do! We ran to the platform thinking we would be late. When we got there, there was absolutely nobody at all there and we couldn’t see any signs of the sun. For ages there was no sign of the Atkins or the sun. Finally we saw the Atkins up and we gave up on this sunrise. We started up the engine and started to drive to...

Apr 15, 2013 - Ormiston Gorge to Kings Canyon Resort
Day 19 of our relaxation – Monday 15 April 2013 Ormiston Gorge to Kings Canyon Resort Today we woke up to a nice swim at the freezing water hole. We have been very lucky as the 4 times we have been in the water hole we have had it all to ourselves. After a very wakening swim we packed up and then headed for the road. Soon we stopped at Glenn Helen Resort to pick up some petrol. We also walked to the waterhole but I got a piggy back all the way there from Alex. When we got there, we quickly realised that nothing can beat the waterhole at...

Nov 14, 2012 - Salt creek rest stop to kings canyon and back to Kulgera
We really enjoyed our free camping spot and were lucky enough to see major Mitchell's before leaving. The drive into the kings canyon seems long and upon arrive we learn that the major walk is 6km return and steep. The weather is creeping up and already 36 so we even debate taking joshie into the 2km walk to the viewing point and waterhole. Lucky it us really shaded although he opts for a shoulder ride from dad ( we think he's got sore legs from his expedition yesterday. Which I'm sure he has as we are feeling it to. The canyon is okay and...

Nov 13, 2012 - Uluru, the olgas and on to salt creek free camp
We hit the road early this morning in the hope of seeing the olgas and Uluru before heading towards the king canyon. We head to the olgas first which are a set of rocks taller than Uluru and have a lot of personality. Joshie is full of adventure today and decides he's going to conquer the 2km walk on his own. He does great considering how unstable some of the rocks are and he is the one who wants to go further along the track. Eventually we make a great sitting area and we have to tell him its the end of the path because its extremely hot...

Oct 9, 2012 - Catch up day
Short walk along Kings Creek at base of canyon first thing. Cliffs towering either side with 50 mt between. Daniel developed a temperature as we finished. Lethargic for the rest of the day. Did some re-organising of packing ready for a few days of long drives.

Oct 8, 2012 - Canyon rim walk
Walked the rim of Kings Canyon, 6km, just over 4 hours. Spectacular walk. 100mt steep ascent. 'Beehive domed' caps or the ridge formed from the weathering of the sandstone. Colourful sheer cliff walls. We were all pretty hot by the finish! The incentive of 'tic-tacs' kept Daniel going...though still piggy-backed for much of it. Afternoon by the pool. Dingoes wandering through the camp ground during the evening. Bit disappointed in campground. Not well maintained. Prices of simple items much more expensive than at any other location. Guy...

Oct 7, 2012 - Kings Canyon
Couldn't decide on which route to take. Decision between 150km on Mereenie loop road, potentially very rough road where reluctant to tow camper. Or 600km involving back tracking to tarmac. Hearing different opinions from others ranging from 'walk in the park' to 'how much do you value your car'......Lastly spoke to another couple who were similarly towing and they'd managed fine. Preferred potentially shorter drive so took the risk. Luckily the right decision. Other tracks this trip have been rougher. Slow but easy. Just sandy and some...

Aug 2, 2012 - Kings Canyon
From Uluru we made our way across to Kings Canyon. It was only 300km’s which made Jesse & Bronte very happy. It is amazing how their perspective on things has changed. At home driving to Ulladulla was such a long way but after a number of big driving days (over 700km’s per day) they look forward to “shorter” drives. We decided to camp at “Kings Creek Station” which is a working property with camels. It was a big change from our previous nights accommodation but we all agreed that we were in our element: eating dinner & relaxing by an open...

Apr 23, 2012 - Kings Canyon

Jan 19, 2012 - Kings Canyon-Day 3
Yet another 4am start and another morning trek before it gets too hot. This time to Kings Canyon, the hardest of our 3 treks on this tour, where they filmed Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. We had three options. Option 1, stay on the bus. Option 2, do the short 30 minute walk in the canyon and option 3, the full walk around the canyon starting with heart attack hill. Only 8 of our group of 17 did the full walk. We were part of the 8 just. Gemma was on the fence for a bit due to being eaten alive by mozzies!! It was a great walk after...
