Up at 4am!! Gemma slept surprisingly well in the swag. After a rushed breakfast and shower we were on the road again to watch the sunrise over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. We then headed to Kata Tjuta and did a walk called the Valley of the Winds. It was windy!! All this had to be done before 11am when it became too hot to do the 7.5km trek. We had an explanation on the science on all the rock formations including Uluru. We completed the walk by 8:30am. Jan 28, 2011 - Ayers Rock / Kata Tjuta

Heute war ein Tag, den wir nicht so schnell vergessen werden. Zuerst ging’s eigentlich ganz gemütlich los – ausschlafen bis 9.00 Uhr!! Gemütliches Breakfast – fast für uns alleine – und dann ein kleiner Transfer innerhalb des Ayers Rock Resort zum Hotel, wo uns der Guide von Adventure Tours abholen wird. Apr 18, 2010 - Mulga Tour Day 3: Uluru

Ook vandaag zijn we relatief vroeg uit onze swag om de zonsopgang te bezichtigen. Niet vanop de sunrise view parking, het uitzicht is een herhaling van zonsondergang. We zullen Felix maar geloven zeker... We installeren ons op dezelfde plaats als gister avond. Nu komt de zon op van naast/achter Uluru. Al slaag ik er niet om zowel zon als volledige Rock op 1 foto te krijgen. En believe me, ik heb geprobeerd. Nadat de zon en het ontbijt op zijn trekken we naar Uluru om een deel van de base walk te doen. Wie wil kan Uluru beklimmen al wordt...

Apr 17, 2010 - Mulga Tour Day 2: Kata Tjuta

Tijdens dergelijke tour is er geen tijd om uit te slapen. Niet dat er moet geraced worden om het programma af te werken maar tijd verspelen in je swag is toch ook geen optie. Bij het ontwaken ze zien we in de verte de contouren van iets dat Uluru zou kunnen zijn. Iedereen aldus druk in de weer met fototoestellen, lenzen en camera’s. Dit tot groot amusement van Felix, die na ons even te hebben laten begaan er attent op maakt dat die berg niet Uluru is. Het is Mount Connor, ook wel FoolUru genoemd . Feb 11, 2010 - Kata Tjuta Domes

Kata Tjuta is home to the 36 'headlike' domes - formerly known as the Olgas. These are 36 domes - the highest of which is over 546m high. The area also has the Valley of the Winds.. A Valley yes the day we were there but No wind! We did a 3 hour walk.. temperatures can get so high that it gets closed off if the temp is above 36 degrees by 11am..!

Feb 26, 2009 - The Olgas

Today we got up early and headed to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and walked the Valley of the Winds.. a 7.4 km walk. We returned to camp and hit the pool... then lunch... during lunch we had a large lizard join us... Elton and the lizard had a short stand off while I got my camera.. Elton won... then we headed off to Kings Canyon... but we had to stop for the horses out for a walk across the highway... then we stopped to see the camels. Tonight there ware dingos in the camp again.. Sleep was not that easy (36 degrees) as the wind couldn't cool us...

Tag 3 im Outback fuehrte uns zum den Olgas (oder auf gut Aboriginal nach Kata Tjuta). Diese Felsformation befindet sich ganz in der Naehe von Uluru (zumindest, wenn man australische Massstaebe anlegt, da nur 50 km entfernt) und ist aehnlich eindrucksvoll. Wir haben eine Wanderung durch das „Valley of the winds“ unternommen und diesmal war es auch eine wirklich Wanderung durch etwas bergiges Gelaende ... sehr schoen, aber auch ordentlich anstrengend, da es ganz schoen heiß war. Der Temperaturunterschied zwischen Tag und Nacht ist riesig ......

Jan 5, 2008 - Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)

Tag 3 in der Wueste - und endlich gabs mal was anzuschauen! Nachdem wir am Vormittag die Grenze von Western Australia ins Northern Territory ueberschritten hatten konnten wir am Nachmittag "The Olgas" besichtigen. War das eine Hitze!!! Echt unvorstellbar heiss. Abends haben wir auf einem Campingplatz uebernachtet, was mir wie ein Luxusresort vorgekommen ist. Endlich mal ein anstaendiges Klo! Nach 3 Tagen ohne Dusche (gefuehlt: mindestens 2 Wochen) und permanentem Schwitzen endlich mal wieder Wasser auf der Haut zu fuehlen war schon ein...
