Jul 8, 2016 - Mt Bundy

Left Katherine and a leisurely drive to Adelaide River - only 205kms - and out the 3kms to Mt Bundy Station. Just loved our week there. First people we ran into were Ged and Trudy, the Balladeers, who we had met in Katherine. Had a super evening around the bonfire, at the Bar, listening to more of their favourite songs. Headed the 120 kms to Darwin for the footy - sadly, the Dockers lost, and we really did not enjoy the evening, due to the drunks and language in our vicinity. Will think twice before going to another game!! Stayed overnight...

May 8, 2016 - Adelaide River - May 8 to May 9

Sunday May 8 to Monday May 9 Douglas Daly Resort to Adelaide River Inn Sunday Thanks for the Happy Mother’s Day phone call Toni and the e-card Paula! Well, this was an unscheduled stop! Happily chugging along at our usual 90klm per hour when we saw the Sunday Markets sign and did a hard right at Adelaide River Inn. As always when we stop, Den did his once around the rig (makes it sound big!), doing bloke stuff like kicking tyres etc. Whoops! Both van tyres were showing mesh – we had intended to replace them in Darwin whether they needed to...

Aug 6, 2012 - Adelaide River

Today we drove to Adelaide River. Before getting to Adelaide River we stopped at Pine Creek for lunch. At Pine Creek we looked at the trains there but the museum was closed. When we arrived at Adelaide River we went to see the war cemetery on the banks of the river. What a beautiful spot and the cemetery is a beautifully peaceful place. At Adelaide River we stayed at Adelaide River Showgrounds but sadly we just missed the horse racing and the big country music weekend. This is a really nice little spot. At the township we did a little walk...

Jul 21, 2012 - Litchfield N.P.

Left Darwin yesterday, late, after getting some minor welding work done on the trailer. So we found a dirt sideroad to camp on. Definately peace and quiet. Large holes in the ground made us suspicious of spiders, so we cooked up an early dinner and spent the evening zipped up in our tent playing cards. Drove out to Litchfield early this morning. Heard a Ranger talk about the magnetic termite mounds that line up North/South. They have decided that this has nothing to do with temperature control at all, but more to do with gas exchange. Can't...

Jun 7, 2012 - Shady Camp to Corroboree Park

FONT SIZE=37th June 2012 Day 31: Shady Camp was a 1 night stopover, so off we go again. We stopped for lunch at The Bark Hut Tavern where we watched the chef feeding emus and water buffalo the food scraps. Luck didn’t order something that had to be cooked by him as we were not impressed with his hygiene standards. We thought about camping there for the night but decided it was a little early to stop so we went another 45km up the road to Corroboree Park. This park was really good as it had nice grassy sites and everything you need and 2...

Friday 15 July 2011: hot, hot, hot! Have decided to leave Darwin a day early as we have seen all we wanted to and want to get on the road again.....were not that impressed with the Park and their lack of customer service. Visited Humpty Doo Pub (another old haunt of Brus)...u have to remember he was 21 when he was here and in the Navy..hahaha hence alot of pubs where his hold haunts.... Moving on we stopped off at Fogg Dam, which was the start of the Wetlands in Kakadu. The road was closed for walking as there was a rogue crocodile roaming...

Jun 30, 2011 - Adelaide river

Left Western Australia and got our group photos under the sign 'Welcome to the Northern territory", it was exciting to get to a new state because the Cato's and Richard are coming up to see us, so Amy is pretty excited! It will be great to see some familiar faces! We are over 1/2 way, traveled through places that even John hasn't been too,(which is hard after 20years of treking with the Flying Doctors he has seen most of this great land.) The down side of entering the territory is we lost 11/2 hours and it makes a big difference to what...
