Dec 18, 2003 - Now in Sydney

Hello all: Well we are now in Sydney. We have been here two weeks but have been having too much fun to find the time to e-mail before this. The People The people here are amasingly welcoming. Yes, people are nice everywhere, however the people we have met are very forward with thier offers to assist, they show genuine interest in what we are doing, they make offers to us (use thier homes to pee (they live accross the street for a playground), use thier swings, sit in thier cars (Simon was interested in a mazda RX-8). There are many many...

Nov 19, 2003 - Melbourne to Sydney

We rented a car in Melborne and took 3 days to drive to Sydney. We used the coastal route stopping in Bairnsdale and Bateman's Bay for an evening. The B&B in Bairnsdale was a historic Victorian place called the Tara House. Gordon and Kaye were great hospitable hosts. After dinner, Corkie managed to drive down the wrong side of the road returning to the B&B. Exciting! We had agreed that she would do the driving and I would handle the navigating. We had done the opposite a few years before in South Africa and it had not worked very well. The...

Sep 5, 2003 - Somewhere over the rainbow...

We flew out of Santiago on a Wednesday evening, travelled for 15 hours and arrived in Sydney on the Friday morning. As if losing a day wasn't confusing enough, neither of us slept on the flight so by the time we'd got through customs and worked out that we didn't need to speak Spanish any more, we were a bit worse for wear. The excitement of being on a new continent seemed to stave off any collapse from physical exhaustion and we nursed cups of teas as we attempted to get our bearings and decide where to stay. This was a bit of a lucky dip,...

Dec 18, 2002 - 2002 Christmas Adventure/Melbourne

Melbourne is Australia's second largest port city, and a truly unique one at that. It is built as all Australian cities are, on the river with the use of the river entwined in the culture of the city. We stayed at a very old hotel that had been recently renovated and was not only interesting but very pleasant. We were right across the street from the river and the old train station. Melbourne has a trolley system that goes in a big square around the city and is a very inexpensive and easy way to navigate the city. We went to the big...

Dec 14, 2002 - Our 2002, Christmas Holiday/Sydney

We are off on our first real Australian adventure; Sydney, Melbourne, then on the Launceston, Tasmania. We are spending a few days in each city, then we will be in our little car and tooling down the west coast of Tasmania for the remainder of our holiday. First Sydney: Sydney is an awesome city, with a lot to see and do. We stay in a little hotel downtown so we can walk around the city. We are close to Darling Harbor and the inter city shopping area. Then we can take the water taxi to Sydney Harbor, and the Opera house, the Sydney harbor...

Dec 10, 2001 - Sydney

Up this morning no rain but didn't get a chance to go back to Uluru for the sunrise as I had a flight back to Sydney. So just walked around the lodge checking out the camels packing up my bags and off to the airport. Getting into Sydney and to my hotel for the night out for some dinner and to check out the night life.
